Bed and Breakfast accommodation at Casa di Lara, a fully restored stone built village house on a cobbled street in the historic centre of a stunning medieval village. We are nestled between lush forested mountains but less than 10 minutes from the Roman town of Sulmona.
We have two beautifully renovated double or twin bedrooms oozing with character - brick vaulted ceilings, exposed stone walls and archways - both rooms with their own private shower room, wash-hand basin and loo. One of the bedrooms could convert to 3 single beds. The second bedroom is listed separately on this site. The rooms are conveniently situated on the ground floor (first floor to Americans) with breakfast served (weather permitting) on the roof terrace from which there are 360 deg views of the village, the mountains around it, along the Peligna valley and all the way to the Gran Sasso and the Corno Grande (almost 9000ft high).
Introdacqua is one of the 50 listed 'Borghi più belli d'italia' (the most beautiful villages in Italy) and has a thriving local community. During the year there are many festas and saints' days, but in the summer months the village is particularly vibrant with jazz festivals, live entertainment, dancing and alfresco eating in the piazza. Casa di Lara is situated away from the bustle but only 2 minutes walk from the piazza, bars, deli, restaurants, bakery, chemist and bank. Directly from the house you can find trails and paths criss-crossing the mountain sides. Whether a pleasure walker or a serious hiker there are trails to suit every ability (we can even put you in touch with a qualified English speaking mountain guide). We can probably sort you out with a bike too ! For more serious cyclists why not try the route of the Giro d'italia which comes right past here.
Sulmona is just 3 miles away on a relatively straight road. Under the Roman acquaduct and down the ancient worn steps you can find the twice weekly market in the huge tree lined Piazza Garibaldi surrounded by cafes, bars and restaurants. The piazza often has live music and hosts an annual jousting competition during the summer. There's a theatre and music concerts, many restaurants and cafe bars, ice cream parlours, fashion boutiques and of course shoe shops. There's a regular bus service from Introdacqua, but a car is recommended to make the most of what the area has to offer. Within 30 minutes drive you'll find lakes, natural springs, ancient hermitages, national parks, roman architecture, historic churches and much more, all set in stunning, green mountain scenery. It's still possible here to find that rare commodity - absolute silence.
The beaches along the Adriatic coast are less than an hour away. Rome is only two hours away (by car) or there's a train or regular coach service from Sulmona, with Naples, Pompei and the Amalfi coast around two and half hours away, making us an ideal base. We look forward to welcoming you to our home and assisting wherever we can in making your holiday a wonderful experience.
