The northern and western lakes have miles of untouched natural rugged beauty and rural villages as well as being home to the historic northern lakes town of Keswick with its many shops, pubs and restaurants; providing a great holiday base. Other areas to discover include the Eden Valley, Cartmel peninsula, south east Cumbria and the Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall area; all equally beautiful and very handy for day trips into the lakes.

Kirkby Stephen

Kirkby Stephen is well known for its fantastic location for walkers as it is situated within easy reach of two National Parks. There are also plenty of other different activities and attractions to suit all tastes including cycling routes, tennis, horse riding and even paragliding! Historical sites are also easily found from this delightful market town including the Heritage Centre, Brough Castle and Ewbank Scar. The Eden Valley offers some of the most beautiful and breathtaking scenery where visitors can simply enjoy the wonderful countryside and explore it as they wish. At the river Eden, visitors can also enjoy a spot of fishing whilst taking in the lovely views. For other activities on the water, Eden Valley has a selection of different sports including canoeing, sailing and even raft building or for inland activities; paintballing is a popular past time along with 4x4 off road experiences. Eden Valley has a large number of different activities to suit everyone whilst making the most of this magnificent and stunning area of Cumbria.
