Sidmouth is well cared for and has the oldest civic society - the Sid Vale Association. There are fine buildings, lovely walks, stunning views and safe beaches to attract visitors and settlers. Additionally there are all the modern conveniences necessary for everyday life including a Hospital, Health Centre, Library, and excellent range of educational facilities, Swimming Pool, Sports Hall, Theatre, Cinema, thriving sports clubs and Waitrose supermarket - a town not to be missed! The Cathedral and University City of Exeter, with its international airport and rail / motorway links, is just 17 miles away, Honiton with a main line rail link is 10 miles away and Junction 30 of the M5 motorway, 12 miles.
Stoneleigh is set within an area of outstanding natural beauty, and overlooks the sea at Weston Combe, next door to the famous FREE Donkey Sanctuary with The Hayloft café/restaurant within an easy 5 - 10 minutes walk. Just down the road is the lovely regency town of Sidmouth, boasting a beach amongst the cleanest in Britain. The coastline from Sidmouth to the quaint fishing village of Beer is owned by the National Trust, and this includes the picturesque village of Branscombe, which has a working water mill and forge, not to mention its own brewery ! Set on the beach at Branscombe is the thatched Sea Shanty restaurant which is owned and run by The National Trust. There are a myriad of footpaths around Stoneleigh encompassing heathland, wooded coombes, cliffs and beaches. You can walk to the shingle beach from Stoneleigh, less than a mile away. Lyme Bay is now known as the Jurassic Coast due to the dinosaur fossils found at Lyme Regis which in turn has lead to the coastline becoming a World Heritage Site,as well as being recognised in the UK as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.Nearby village pubs such as The Fountain Head and The Mason Arms in Branscombe serve good food, wine and locally brewed beer.
