The Costa del Sol region
Costa del Sol is well known for its year round sunny, mild climate and for an amazing range of Golf courses available. We have enjoyed warm sunshine in January, when the lower temperatures are perfect for golf, exploring or long walks.
There are many villages in the area to explore, each with their own character and amenities. The views from villages set high in the hills are spectacular.
Duquesa Village Area
Duquesa Village is a peaceful gated complex set within its own tropical gardens, boasting 5 swimming pools, and a paddle tennis court, together with secure parking. The complex is approximately 15 minutes walk from Puerto La Duquesa, a picturesque marina which possesses a wide range of bars, cafes and restaurants serving magnificent seafood. There are long sandy beaches on both sides of the marina, offering charming beach cafes which also rustle up wonderful local dishes. The beaches here have gained a European Blue flag for cleanliness and good amenities.
A promenade, which has exercise areas with outdoor gym equipment at several points, links Duquesa to the neighbouring town of Sabinillas on one side and the small fishing village of El Castillo on the other, which is erfect for a leisurely stroll or cycle ride.
The bustling waterfront SABINILLAS has a wide range of beach front restaurants, shops, cafes and bars while EL CASTILLO has more traditional Spanish restaurants and tapas bars serving local fish.
SOTOGRANDE is a short drive away with its famous marina, polo matches, and luxury villas. In the area there are beautiful drives through woods and vineyards into the mountains, where you can stop at traditional and picturesque white villages (Pueblos) such as RHONDA, and CASARES, or drive through the natural parks and stop at the the many viewpoints, to enjoy stunning views of the mountains, and the coast which stretches out in front of you to GIBRALTAR and north Africa. A spectacle that can be enjoyed during March are nesting Storks by the score, who have developed the cunning tactic of building their twiggy nests on municipal street lights, and towers.
You might enjoy a visit to GIBRALTAR, where you can walk or travel by cable car to the famous rock, to see the famous Barbary Apes. Another town with stunning views is RONDA reached by a winding road up the mountain. When you get there join the locals for some Churos, a type of freshly cooked doughnut, often dunked in chocolate.
The nearest golf course is La Duquesa Golf which is 1 mile from the apartment, but there are several others in the area such as San Roque, Valderrama, Valle Romano, Los Flamingos, to name just a few.
The nearby glamorous MARBELLA and PUERTO BANUS offer plenty of opportunity for designer shopping, where you browse, and do some famous faces spotting.
For those who enjoy organised attractions, there are Selwo Hills Safari Park in ESTEPONA. and Tivoli world and an aquapark in Benelmadena, a little further down the coast. In Estepona You can book speedboats which take you out to sea in search of whales and dolphins.
Seville and Granada are about 2 hours drive from Duquesa and you can also take a ferry from Algeciras to Morocco (1hr on the ferry).
