Viterbo

Viterbo:

The town has ancient origins. There are archaeological sites and spas (necropolis of Caste d'Asso, the source of the Bullicame, Roman theater Ferento). Viterbo is historically known as the City of the Popes: in the thirteenth century was in fact the papacy for about 24 years. The Papal Palace hosted various Popes.

The city is famous for the transport of the "Macchina di Santa Rosa" (Saint Rose's Car), traditional and spectacular event that takes place every year on 3 September in honor of the patron saint, an illuminated structure, 30 meters high and weighing 52 tons, is carried on the shoulders of hundred men, porters of Santa Rosa, through the streets of the city.
