The Turquoise coast, where Dalyan town is situated, is a breathtaking part of Turkey often otherwise known as the 'Turkish Riviera', whose lands are a veritable open air museum. Home to two of the seven wonders of the ancient world, including the ruins of the Mausoleum of Maussollos and Temple of Artemis in Ephesus.
Alongside this discover many ancient ruins dating back to the Bronze Age, along the 'Lycian Way' . Following this route there are the ruins of Xanthos, Patara, Antiphellos amongst many others.
Aside from the points of historic interest, the Turquoise coast - so beautiful and significant it was chosen by Marc Antony as a wedding gift to Cleopatra - is home to many sparkling bays ideal for sailing trips around the coastline. Known as the 'Blue Voyage' where one can experience many ancient ruins, secluded coves and verdant forests.
The area is perfect for all year round visits - in the height of summer it is a balmy 30-35C and in the spring months you can experience temperatures in the high teens to mid twenties. Off season you can explore the ruins or do some bird watching - Storks and Flamingos alongside Golden Eagles are some of the highlights.
Dalyan (meaning fishing weir) is a quiet town on the banks of the Dalyan Delta River and Lake. It's main attraction are the fore mentioned Lycian Rock Tombs dominating the peaceful town, the ruins at Kaunos, plus Iztuzu beach - breeding grounds for the loggerhead turtle . Surrounded by pine forests, hot water springs and cool shady spots by the river, tranquility is easily found even in the height of season.
The main town is home to a selection of restaurants and bars - the best ones can be found on the banks of the river where you can view the stunning rock tombs. Some local cafes serve excellent coffees, cakes and juices etc. Experience the delights of a traditional Turkish breakfast or some grilled squid or traditional 'Kofte' at many of the local Turkish restaurants, or buy some fresh produce at the local Saturday market and cook up a Mediterranean feast.
