The Algarve region

The Algarve is Portugal's premier holiday destination, with pretty beaches and picturesque whitewashed towns. The setting is undeniably beautiful: breathtaking cliffs, wide golden sands, natural bays, scalloped beaches and long sandy islands with waves lapping at the shore. Outside the touristy enclaves, there are quiet castle towns, flower-covered hillsides and enchanting stretches of shoreline still untouched by development.

With a variety of towns, the Western Algarve includes: Lagos, with its cobbled streets, young crowds and abundant nightlife. Monchique is a quaint town with fine views over the steep wooded countryside. Out on the rugged west coast, small, charming towns like Sagres and Carrapateira attract a surf-loving crowd.

Lagos

There is an abundance of nearby golf courses, including: Palmares, Boavista, Penina, Parque de Floresta and Pinta to name a few.

Other local day activities could include: boat trips around the caves, dolphin boat trips, yacht charter, various watersports, horse riding, aqua parks, Zoo Marine, Portimao motor racing circuit, mountain biking, road cycling and wonderful coastal and mountain walks.

Lagos is a five minute drive away with the marina and its cafes and bars. The marina is a good place to park and walk over the foot bridge into the historic, walled town. There is a good selection of cafes, restaurants and shops. We highly recommend visiting the fish market and the fruit, veg and local produce market upstairs. There are also a number of high quality supermarkets in and around town.
