The Gondola House, designed to the highest specifications by an award winning architect, was built on the Giudecca waterfront on the outline of the Squero (Venetian for “Gondola boatyard”) that once stood on the site. When the architect told us that we'd be able to sit up in bed in the morning and watch gondolas going by we dismissed it as sales talk. But it's true - and wonderfully so! With ground to roof windows facing onto the Venice lagoon and with superb views towards the Lido from both the living room and the upstairs bedroom, you realise as you look out that there's only one place in the world you could be …
Ground floor: a living area with sofa and two arm chairs; a small multi-media library – books, CDs, DVDs - focusing on everything Venetian: art, architecture, wine, food, movies set in Venice, music etc. The dining area has a table and four chairs and lovers of good wine will find a rack of carefully chosen wines from the Veneto region which is offered on an “enjoy and replace in kind” basis. The fully fitted designer kitchen is well stocked with appliances. Off the living area is a bathroom with shower, w/hand basin and WC.
First floor: the bedroom features a king size bed with a 9 inch Norris mattress, a large suite of fitted wardrobes, chairs, consoles and bedside tables (two of each); bathroom and shower; landing with sky light.
The property, located in a privately owned condominium with a gated entrance, has the benefit of air-conditioning and under-floor heating.
Outside: a small terrace dining area with table and chairs. Views down what used to be the gondola slipway to the lagoon. Private mooring (shared).

After the city of Venice itself, you might want to explore the Venice lagoon and its islands and ports. Waterbuses from the local stop will take you to the glass-making island of Murano and from there you can go on to Burano (lace) and Torcello (peaceful, beautiful, historic and with the perfect lunch awaiting you in the delightful garden of the Locanda Cipriani). The city of Chioggia has all the charm of a miniature Venice and the amazing island of Pellestrina has to be visited to be believed.
Venice's rail station on the Grand Canal offers you fast trains to Padua, Vicenza, Verona and the shores of Lake Garda – all possible day trips.
The owners gladly offer clients advice and information about exploring the region.
Venice comprises over 100 islands of which Giudecca is the largest. In recent years the island has been increasingly recognised as the perfect place in which to live and enjoy Venice. Unspoilt by tourism and yet less than five minutes from St Mark's Square by waterbus, Giudecca has some of Venice's best restaurants along with boutique galleries, excellent neighbourhood shops and, not least, a sense of openness and space rarely found in Venice. Three landmark Palladio churches are nearby and Giudecca plays host to exhibitions and concerts all year round while providing many venues for the Venice Biennale. In the summer a special boat stops at the local pontoon stop (Zitelle) to take the locals to the Lido beaches.
