Our house is in the small village of Menil, dominated by pretty river walks and cycle paths. For those keen fisherman amongst you, this stretch of the river permits both night and day fishing for the huge carp lurking in its waters. Pedalo and canoe hire is available and there is a small tourist office next to the children's play area. The local 'guingette' (snack bar) is open by the river throughout May to October. Bread can also be purchased in the village itself. The village of Daon is only a short cycle ride away and this has a wider selection of restaurants (creperie, pizzeria and auberge) in addition to a mini golf and small shop. Château Gontier is 7km away and is the nearest town. Activities for younger children might include the zoo, the swimming pool, horse riding, the cinema, whilst adults will enjoy the weekly market and the collection of local bars and restaurants.
You will be in the middle of a French community and if you are looking to perfect your language, then the accent is a good and neutral.
We have had blistering hot days from May onwards and the climate is generally milder than in the UK.
