Gandia is in the La Safor area of the Valencia Community, with green and lush valleys filled with extensive orange groves which scent the fertile landscape with the stunning and dramatic backdrop of the La Safor and Montduver mountain ranges. It is a bustling historical coastal town with great shopping and countless bars and restaurants offering tapas and local wines or gourmet fine-dining. The historical centre including numerous churches, a cathedral and The Borgias Palace are all worth exploring. The beautiful Blue Flag beaches with their golden sands stretch along the shoreline for some ten miles with lively chiringitos (beach bar cafés) every few hundred metres, some of which stay open until 6 o'clock in the morning!
The La Safor region is basically unspoilt with tiny villages largely unchanged for generations nestling amongst the citrus groves with many historic buildings, palaces, monasteries, churches, caves and castle ruins to explore.
Forming part of the Costa Azahar (Orange Blossom Coast) the Province of Valencia benefits from 320 days of sunshine each year allowing an al fresco lifestyle most of the year and has a long tradition of fiestas undiminished by time. The Fallas in March and San Juan in June provide a spectacular example of the exuberance of Spanish celebration, and the Moors and Christian festivals which take place throughout the summer celebrate the history of the glorious and renowned Valencian region.
The City of Valencia, which is the 3rd largest in Spain, is only 45 minutes drive up the coast. It is famous for its sporting, cultural and commercial achievements.
