The village's considerable amenities are only minutes away on foot: shops, pubs, restaurants, a beautiful harbour and shingle beach (fishing and boat hire available), and wonderful coastal walks along the Jurassic Coast, a World Heritage Site. There is even an annual regatta held in August, a major event in Beer's calendar.
The whole surrounding area, too, is full of interest. The coastal towns of Sidmouth and Lyme Regis are a short distance away; and the cathedral city of Exeter, and Dorset's county town, Dorchester, are an easy drive. The beautiful hinterland of both Devon and Dorset (including the famous Hardy country) contain many hidden gems, complementing the superb coastal scenery.
