EcoFinca Lo Favaret is a project born from a passionate desire for mother nature and the ecology, thought of a few years ago when we lived in the city, John in Edinburgh and Paco in Barcelona, with a need to change the rhythm, but maintaining positive values and bring them together with a rural culture, creating a place where tranquility and energy vibrate at the same pace.

Ecofinca Lo Favaret covers an area of 1.3 Hectares, to the south of the Serra del Boix, enjoying a warm and dry micro-climate, ideal for the cultivation of the centenarian olives. We converted the finca to an ecological cultivation method, producing extra virgin organic olive oil.

A perfect place for people, like us, who have their hearts split between the sea and the mountain.

In the Eco houses we live respecting the natural resources. The solar energy, photo-voltaic and thermal and the rainwater collected and stored in subterranean cisterns.

One foot out the door, you're walking through aromatic plants, herbs and wild flowers, the thyme crunching underfoot or the lavender scenting your walk.

That´s how we like it! Come share the experience in the heart of the mountain and a stone´s throw from the sea!

Imagine a house on a hill with the beauty of the Delta of the Ebro at your feet, sounds good?

This is where we built, following bio-architectural principals, sustainability and using recycled materials, the principal house of the Ecofinca, where we live.

On the east side, enjoy an independent space of 35 square meters with kitchen, bathroom, lounge, bedroom and 30 square meters terrace. Completely equipped with sheets, towels, tv, dvd, music system, wifi and under-floor heating, all you could possibly need in the kitchen, including coffee, tea, sugar, salt, rice, pasta and our organic olive oil, and above all, spectacular views.

The Catalunia region

The splendour of the river in the centre of the Ebro-valley with on either side the green hills covered with orange- and olive groves (fincas) procures an unrealistic sentiment, if one thinks of Spain being a country of

drought, arid soils and deserts. Facing south of Tortosa one can't miss the majestic mountain range of els

ports with mount Caro as the highest peak. The entire mountain-range is notable for the luxuriance of its landscapes and waterfalls and even ranches of fighting bulls can be found. Ideal spot for walks or bicycle tours whilst contemplating the splendour of the local flora and fauna.

In the Ebro-delta you have the possibility of taking a guided boat tour right to the mouth of the Ebro, passing the typical marsh scenery of the river-banks, but also rice fields, lagoons and unspoilt beaches. The delta

has a unique ecological value and it represents the second biggest European bird reserve.

You can hire bikes and discover thus the particularities of this flat landscape since many paths and tracks lead you into territories, where cars have no access. The entire family can walk or cycle for miles and miles without too much effort since everything is flat. Discover the immense beaches of beautiful white sand where you will probably be the only humans present. Don't forget to watch the flamingos, the herons and hundreds of other species from a short distance while they are searching for food !

Just stepping out the door of the Ecohouses, you can start walking or mountain biking in the Serra del Boix. If you are of those who prefer the mountains and adventure sports, we are just 45 minutes from the summits of over 1,000 meters of the Natural Park of Els Ports Tortosa-Besseit. And do not miss the Serra del Cardo, little known, full of history and breathtaking mountain scenery is 1 hour from the Ecofinca.

If you want the sea and beach, the Natural Park of the Delta del Ebro is only 15 minutes drive, waiting for you with rice fields rising behind the sand dunes, unspoilt beaches and incredible variety of bird-life, including the famous pink flamingos.

We briefly recommend some routes we have walked and believe are impressive. If you want to know more, we invite you to see them in more detail and new excursions as on our blog. Have great fun!

The Mountains

Els Ports-La Caramella

Spectacular gorge with impressive waterfalls. Route with little difficulty and accessibility. Just entering the ravine of La Caramella water is abundant, it cascades from the cliffs and spring water trickles everywhere. The whole atmosphere takes us to an exotic and distant land, typical of Vietnam. At the top there is a 100 metre cascade, Cua de Cavall (Horse tail), the view of the gorge is incredible.

Els Ports-La Vall Servera (Servera Valley)

The Valley Cervera, especially in spring and autumn, has all the requirements for photographers of National Geographic. The colours of the terraces of olive trees mingle with pine forests, towering peaks in clouds and dotted with old farmhouses. At the end of the valley, comes the surprise; the Toll Blau and picture postcard waterfalls.

Montsiá – La Foradada

This is a route with little difficulty and stunning views over the Delta del Ebro. Best walked on a clear day to enjoy the scenery the Montsiá is a natural area with a maximum peak of 765 metres. It is a calcareous low mountain range located right next to the sea and the Delta del Ebro. From its summit, at La Foradada, one of its main attractions, there is a stunning viewpoint of the Delta del Ebro.

Els Ports-La Vall de l'Infern (Hell´s Valley)

If you do this tour in the autumn, you will find lush vegetation full of flowers and aromas. It is a simple but stunning route, which traverses at first on the soft Mediterranean side of Els Ports and suddenly switches to the side that is almost Pyrenean with stunning red and black pines and towering rock faces where we find the spring water of the Vall de l'Infern.

Els Ports-El Pla de l'Hedra

This delightful itinerary begins in the recreational area of the sources of Sant Roc, one of the most beautiful corners of Baix Ebre. The wonderful views that will reach, as you gain height, the Ebro valley and the mountains of Els Ports massif, the magic of the Cova del Llop, the walk through the dense forests of the Pla de l'Hedra, the impressive walls of the Roca Blanca, the waters of the Fountain of Galdiri, will leave an extrange impression … whether it was all a dream or not!

Els Ports-La Roca Xapada

Moderately difficult route in which we discover the southernmost part of the Els Ports Natural Park, in the area of Más de Barberáns. It is an excursion that will not disappoint anyone. The almost lunar beauty of the area is striking. The geological formations of “El Racó dels Capellans” and “Els Tacóns” will bring us back to Cappadocia or the Enchanted City of Cuenca. The changes of scenery -rugged, powerful, arid and sometimes softened by small pine forests- impact us and will remain forever in our minds and our memories.

Els Ports-Les Fonts de Paüls (The sources of Paüls)

Paüls is rich in groundwater, a fact that allows for numerous springs, among which the Font de Sant Roc, with sixteen pipes, located in a recreation area and surrounded by countless plant species of high biological value, of giant trees that protect the “corros” (circles), tables and chairs carved in stone.

The route runs between fields and near the forest, which makes this trip, a walk half tamed, half-untamed, straddling the cherry, almond and olive trees that flourish and help paülesencs the wild forest. And the sources are the meeting point!

Els Ports-La Cova dels Adells and la Vall del Bosc Negre (Adells Cave and Black Forest Valley)

The more we move through the woods and charming places in this corner of the Els Ports Massif, have more desire to stay forever. The rumor of the waters of the Font dels Xorros, the barren whiteness of Les Rases del Maraco, green moss in the Font dels Adells, fresh water that flows between ferns in the Font del Bosc Negre, the shadow and the thousands of nuances green of the pines of Bosc Negre … all is quiet and peace. A magical and bucolic as any.

The Delta

Punta del Fangar (The Fangar Point)

This jewel in the deltas crown is one of the greatest treasures of the Delta del Ebro. It is a haven for many species of birds, different with each season. The landscape and light are never the same. Here you will find the rice fields meeting the golden sand dunes, and you will be perplexed by the mirages that arise in the distance.

El Trabucador and La Banya

A strange landscape where you feel far away from everything, surrounded by water on both sides. A narrow sand bar several kilometers long that leads to the Punta de Banya, which closes the bay of Alfacs with Rápita in the distance and a landscape of dunes and kilometers of unspoiled beaches. Eventually at the end the white mountains of the Trinitat salt lakes
