The town of Pizzo is perched on a hill overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea. It is actually built on the ruins of ancient Roman napitia, where it is said that St. Peter stopped on his journey to Rome. The landscape is truly stunning and the town has a thriving fishing port and is steeped in history. The streets are narrow and are linked to each other with a myriad of buildings, churches and ancient fountains. You can absorb the view across the sea from Capo Vatacano to Lamezia and the best place is from the Spuntone – a large balcony overlooking the Aragonis Castle.
The range of amenities in the town is excellent and include golf, various watersports and some amazing seafood restaurants. If you are a ice cream lover then this place is renowned as THE best in the world!
Take a stroll around the ancient town and visit the various churches and eat at some of the amazing restaurants. It really is another world and the weather can be amazing.
Another option is to try out the small beach – we did this once and there was a total of just three people around and enjoying 30 degree + temperatures.
The closest golf course is located at the Feudo Montalto Golf Club in Limbadi, a small town 25km south of Tropea (30 minutes drive).
If you require more of an active holiday then the apartment is just 90 minutes drive from a number of ski resorts. Check out the villaage of Camigliatello, which is one of the major tourist centres in the area renowned for its wide array of winter sports and top rated hotels. Another ski resort is Gambarie, located near Aspromonte. There are around 2,198 feet of vertical descent and some stunning scenery. The resort has 5 pistes and is 100km away from the local town of Tropea.
