County Kerry is the most beautiful and scenic part of Ireland. Because of its natural beauty it is named the Kingdom, The Dingle Peninsula is lost in time and untouched. It is rich in it´s culture and heritage, and still holds the Gaelic language as its mother tongue. It´s History is rich and deep, with Castles and Folklore in abundance. Ancient pre-christain sacred sites are abundant on The Dingle Peninsula, including the famous Ogham stones.
Irish music and ´craic´ is the feature of many Pubs. And most pubs do great hearty lunches and dinners.
County Kerry´s Scenery is majestic : steep Mountain passes, Lakes, Sea Cliffs, Forests, Waterfalls, National Parks, long sandy beaches.
County Kerry is an outdoor enthusiasts HEAVEN. You name it, it´s here in County Kerry.
Horse riding, Golf, Water sports, Hiking, Rock climbing, Quad biking, Family biking, Swimming, Fishing, Boating.
The house is very convenient to tour all of County Kerry. Tralee is the best base to explore from, and itself hosts numerous indoor and outdoor activities. www.gokerry.ie is a great web-site for seeing all on offer in county Kerry. The house is also on the Road to Dingle, and so is at the beginning of the most beautiful route in Ireland. In fact, from Derrymore to Brandon, The coastline is non ending sandy beaches. Biggest problem is choosing which is your favourite.
Castlegregory (12 miles) is a unique 5 mile long peninsula that juts out from the the mainland. On one side it is famous for the surfing, and the other is kids watersports as it has a protected bay. It also boasts more sunshine than anywhere else in Ireland as it has its own micro-climate.
From Tralee you can tour south Kerry (Ring of Kerry) in a day. Killarney is under 30 miles East and Dingle town is under 30 miles South West.
So very central for touring the whole region. Day trips going north across the Shannon can take you to the Cliffs of Moher and County Clare.
Also of note is the Rose of Tralee Festival, scheduled for the 3rd week in August. This brings many extra activities to Tralee for the middle of August. Fairgrounds, circus, street entertainment, markets, Live shows, Firework displays, Parades etc. It is the most famous of Irish festivals and gets televised every year.
