Counted among the most important tourist destinations of Italy, Sicily is a land rich in architectural, artistic and natural priceless treasures, which holds the regional record for the number of World Heritage Sites awarded by UNESCO. Just think of the magnificent Palazzo dei Normanni in Palermo, at the archaeological site of the Valle dei Templi in Agrigento and the active volcanoes of the Aeolian Islands. Sicily is a land of contrasts, offering the visitor a unique itinerary, which follows in the footsteps of the ancient civilizations that have crossed over the centuries along with the natural beauty of its rich territory. If you are looking for a holiday by the sea, here you'll be greeted wide sandy beaches, towering cliffs and crystal clear waters. Giardini Naxos offers everything that a tourist can wish thanks to its proximity to the beautiful old town of Taormina, is an ideal place for your holiday in Sicily.
Giardini Naxos, the first Greek colony in Sicily, has an extensive archaeological area and museum. Very few landscapes embrace the traditional beauties of Sicily as Giardini Naxos. Halfway between Messina and Catania, Giardini Naxos can be reached in less than an hour from Fontanarossa Catania Airport. From here there are excursions to Taormina (just 5 km), Siracusa, Agrigento, Palermo, the Aeolian Islands, Etna, the pine forest of Linguaglossa (a unique and charming sea route - snow) and the Alcantara valley with its gorges.
We recommend you to taste for breakfast the home made almond pastries and the real sicilian granita with cream and buns, at Capriccio's bar, which is just crossing the street.
To taste real sicilian food, we do suggest an excursion in a very characteristic hamlet: Forza d'Agrò, that is about 30 minutes far, following the panoramic road by the sea in the direction of Messina.Taormina, with its luxurious hotels, offers to the tourists magnificent views of the coast; it's a perfect place to make shopping until late at night or to drink a cocktail sitting outside on comfortable cushions. A visit to the greek theater, which is also a renowned stage for several prestigious festivals, is a must.
For bathing, in addition to the shores, there are many free beaches of sand or stones, as you like.
Numerous historical sites of Greek, Arab, Roman and Norman colonies are all over with its museums, archaeological sites, cathedrals and churches; we suggest you to visit Siracuse and Noto, the city of Baroque architecture, about 45 minutes by the highway.
There are also daily trips to visit Aeolian islands (bording at Milazzo - Messina)
