Langhe and Roero are names that evoke images of cordiality and well being. They are small ancient provinces where the traditions have been kept alive. It's the birthplace of the Slow Food Movement, as well as the famous truffle and French influenced cuisine. It is the home to the world renowned red Italian wines such as Barolo, Barbaresco, Nebbiolo and Dolcetto. This has made it a favourite for tourists the world over interested in fine foods and wines.
This region within a region covers a fairly large and roughly triangular swath of rolling vineyard country around the town of Alba. Alba has traditionally acted as a gate to the Langhe mountains and a passage to Liguria. In fact the area was inhabited by Ligurians who invaded the area five centuries before Christ.
The town Cravanzana stands on a small “rocca”, on the right side of the Belbo river, 555 meters on sea level.
It's one of the main production centres for hazelnut.
The highest part of Cravanzana is the oldest one, built around the parish church of saint Peter and Paul and the medieval castle.
