The Paphos region

Paphos District is steeped in historical charm, blending natural beauty with all the trappings of a modern holiday destination. Believed to be the birth place of Aphrodite, Goddess of Love, visit Aphrodite's Baths or swim to the legendary Aphrodite's rock. According to legend, this strikingly beautiful spot is where Aphrodite rose from the waves.

There are several sites of medieval significance and Paphos Castle and the Byzantine Church in Geroskipou, are well worth an inspection.

Lara Bay, also known as turtle beach, is north of Paphos in the Akamas Peninsula. Here the mountains slope down to the sea and the beach is accessible (for the most part) only along unsurfaced tracks that are several miles long. The beaches and views in the Akamas Peninsula are simply spectacular. Lara Bay is a turtle sanctuary on a long stretch of coastline where attempts are being made to protect turtles and provide safe sites for their egg laying.

Enjoy the most spectacular views in the Troodos mountains. Nothing could be more dramatically different from Mediterranean beach life, than the impressive Troodos mountain range that stretch across the center of Cyprus and reach up to 1.952 meters at Chionistra, the highest point of Mount Olympus

Enjoy scenic walks, a great variety of interesting birds and flora to be seen, waterfalls and special picnic sites, and above all, Troodos mountain villages are of immeasurable charm to wander or cycle round, or simply to dally in and observe the unhurried rustic country life.

Other local attractions include the Paphos Bird and Animal Park and Aphrodite's Water Park, and there are plentiful opportunities to try your hand at a variety of water sports or take a trip on a glass bottomed boat.

Paphos enjoys a warm Mediterranean climate, with sunny, warm summers and short mild winters when the weather is comparable to a pleasant European spring. Towards the end of the brief winter season, in late January and February, snow falls in the Troodos mountains and it is possible to make a ski-trip and take a dip in the blue sea all on the same day. Paphos guarantees more than 320 sunny days a year.

Visit the village of Mandria - 10 mins east of the airport if you like small pavement cafe's and the best fish and chips in Cyprus, maybe better than back home.

There are so many other places to see collect a map whilst at the airport and explore.

Kato Paphos

Pambis restaurant is only five minutes away - really quite nice.

There is also a convenience shop next to Pambis which stocks most things.

The harbour is only 10 minutes away a bus stops about 50m to the right of the front door only 1.5 euro each way per person.

There are so many restaurants near but try DT's which is near the petrol station on the Tomb of the kings road - you will enjoy grumpy hours there on a Friday from 4pm to 7pm - large wine 1.8 euro and its not bad.

Beer is 1.8 euro a pint - try the Leon.
