Casa Amêndoa is all about peace and relaxation with plenty of fun and excitement for all age groups on your doorstep, all set in one of Portugal's most beautiful areas 50 minutes north of Lisbon on the Costa Prata (Silver Coast).

Fully air-conditioned, Casa Amêndoa is a very large, newly finished luxury 3 bedroom villa which sleeps 6/8 and is designed in the modernist style by one of Portugal's leading architects. It features a large and airy southwest facing living area that extends out through sliding floor-to-ceiling glass doors to a large terracotta terrace and garden with 9m x 4m pool, an ideal space for great family holidays or for just relaxing by the pool (please note that the pool is not fenced). The view takes you across the 14th fairway of the highly rated Bom Sucesso Golf Course and on to the Atlantic Ocean beyond where you can enjoy some stunning sunsets. Stylish outdoor furniture completes the ambience and an overhanging roof canopy offers shade to the outdoor dining table. Inside, the southwest wing is completed by a dining room, fully equipped kitchen and utility room.

In the cooler, northeast facing wing there are three good sized double bedrooms with large single push-together beds and extensive built-in wardrobe space. One has an en-suite shower/bathroom and there is a separate family shower/bathroom and a third WC. There's a sofa bed in the sitting room for larger parties.

Casa Amêndoa provides luxurious and stylish living in equal measure and is located on the 5 star Bom Sucesso Design and Golf Resort which offers added security along with shops, bars and restaurants just a short stroll away. A tennis club and football pitch compliment the excellent golf facilities – the driving range is one of the most spectacular you are ever likely to see and the par 72 course is designed by the world renowned Donald Steel. The resort also provides great children's play areas and offers a free shuttle service to its own Atlantic beach and bar. In 2015 a Hilton boutique hotel is expected to open in the resort, offering additional 5 star facilities.

Drive out of the resort and the Obidos sea lagoon is just two minutes away, around which are located vast sandy beaches, bars, restaurants, boat hire and a sailing club. The lagoon creates a natural break to the sea giving you a choice of family friendly flat waters on one side and the excitement of the sea on the other. There's also two more major golf courses within 5 minutes drive – the Seve Ballesteros designed Royal Obidos and the top 10 rated Praia del Rey links course. We have two sets of clubs that can be made available if requested in advance, should you fancy a round!

Drive 15 minutes and you can be in the UNESCO World Heritage town of Obidos with its fortified walls, cobbled streets, boutique shops, bars and restaurants - we strongly recommend a visit. There's also an amphitheatre where regular concerts are performed. If you'd like a bigger shopping or cultural fix then Lisbon's historic centre and lively harbour area are both about an hour by car.

If you like surf then drive 20 minutes along the coast and you will find yourself by Baleal Island. The beaches here offer conditions to suit everyone from beginner to expert – it's a world surf championship venue! – and there's plenty of hire shops and surf schools if you fancy a go. There's also plenty of bars, restaurants and miles of sandy beaches. Next to these is the port town of Peniche and from here you can take boat trips to the Berlengas Islands, a protected wildlife area. If you like diving then there are also dive trips available. Apparently the seas around the Berlengas provide excellent dive sites.

For wine lovers the local area offers several vineyard tours with some remarkably good value wines and eating out in general tends to be inexpensive and very good quality.

Getting here: TAP, Easyjet and Ryanair fly to Lisbon from many locations and both offer some very competitive prices. The airport is about 50 minutes drive away. Porto is also worth considering. The drive is about 2.5hrs but Ryanair fly there and some of their prices can be excellent value, so it's worth considering. But whatever you do you will need a hire car.

Casa Amêndoa – we hope you love being here.

The Central Portugal region

The Costa Prata is one of the most beautiful areas in Portugal with miles of sandy beaches and coves. The average daytime temperature for the period between the beginning of April to the end of October is around 26°c while typical temperatures for July and August often peak in the mid 30s. The Obidos sea lagoon is the largest in Portugal and attracts a diverse range of wildlife as well as offering beaches, bars restaurants and water-sports facilities. Baleal beach is one of Europe's top surf centres and its unique arrangement of bays and coves creates a wide range of surf conditions which virtually guarantees something for everyone. Divers and bird lovers can both join regular trips to the Berlengas Islands at Peniche for clear waters and extensive wildlife.

Head a few miles inland and you can visit the ancient town of Obidos, a UNESCO World Heritage site often referred to as Portugal's jewel in its crown. They hold regular concerts and festivals here and its cobbled streets lead to lots of shops, bars and restaurants. You can also take a stroll around the town's ramparts and enjoy the spectacular views of the region. With the motorway network only a few minutes away you can quickly reach many more places of interest including Lisbon and the wonderfully preserved medieval National Palace at Sintra.

The area has many very good vineyards and several of these are open to visitors so wine lovers are well catered for. We recommend an early excursion to stock up for your stay.

Wherever you go in the region the restaurants seem to offer good quality cuisine at very good prices. For nightlife there's Foz do Arelho where the bars facing the Atlantic come to life around 11pm. It's similar at Baleal where the various surf bars have a great vibe.

Casa Amêndoa is located on the five star Bom Sucesso Architecture and Golf Resort. It's one of the world's first 'starchitect' projects, where internationally renown architects have each been given areas to design a mixture of holiday villas and/or town houses in the modernist style. All of the villas are designed to have minimal impact on the landscape into which a championship golf course has been honed by the leading exponent of golf course design, Donald Steel. As a result, if you drive around the resort very few villas appear to rise more than one floor above ground level, but get up close and you'll discover many dramatic architectural features. It's a unique place that offers all the refinement you need for a luxury holiday without the price tag.

The golf course clubhouse continues the modernist theme and offers a very good, inexpensive menu. Next door a boutique Hilton hotel is due to be finished in 2013 and will offer lots of luxury facilities. A commercial zone has a small supermarket along with cafe, restaurant and a few shops. There's also a Tennis club at the resort along with a football pitch and a number of play areas for younger children.

Serious golfers can also enjoy playing the newly built Seve Ballesteros designed Royal Obidos course which is already attracting a lot of plaudits or the Praia del Rey links course which hugs the Atlantic coastline and is ranked amongst Portugal's best. Both are around 5 minutes drive from the resort. If you are on holiday and just fancy a round or two we've left a couple of sets of clubs at the house - just ask and we'll make sure they're available.

In the summer the resort provides a free bus service from the commercial zone to their own Atlantic beach and bar/cafe set at the top of a lovely sandy cove. If you want a relaxing meal out, as well as the golf clubs there's several restaurants and cafes overlooking the lagoon and lots of places in Obidos.
