The Lazio region

Everyone knows Rome is one of the greatest cities in Europe with its famous ancient landmarks and deep history. To see it properly takes time or several visits. We've lived there (on and off) for more than 20 years, and would be happy to give you some of our recommendations when you stay with us, as some of the best places and restaurants are definitely not in the guide books - especially outside the city!

In Rome, our favourite areas are Trastevere (the artisan district) for evening/night time strolls and dinner (try the Piazza dei Mercanti or the Viccolo de Cinque for restaurants) or try the Jewish quarter for artichokes jewish style (carcioffi ala giudea). In the centre, Via delle Vite and Via delle Carozze are quieter offshoots of the Spanish steps with decent restaurants and Via Colla di Rienzo has good shopping near the Vatican as well as the best deli in Rome.
