The Lake District conjures up images of magnificent mountains and shimmering lakes and that is exactly what visitors find here. In fact the whole county of Cumbria is home to some of Britain's most beautiful scenery. This region has been a favourite all year round holiday destination for years and apart from its natural beauty it's also packed with lots of attractions and activities that cater for every kind of holidaymaker, from family holidays to romantic breaks for couples and from those who are looking for lots of activities and sports to those that prefer more gentle country pursuits. The Lake District National Park lies at the heart of Cumbria and contains well known and much loved holiday destinations such as Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Coniston and Grasmere, here there are lots of charming Lakeland villages to discover and visitor attractions for all the family. The northern and western lakes have miles of untouched natural rugged beauty and rural villages as well as being home to the historic northern lakes town of Keswick with its many shops, pubs and restaurants; providing a great holiday base. Other areas to discover include the Eden Valley, Cartmel peninsula, south east Cumbria and the Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall area; all equally beautiful and very handy for day trips into the lakes.
Watermillock is a small hamlet which runs alongside the shores of Ullswater in the Northern Lakes. Its proximity to both the lake and the high fells of Helvellyn and its sister fells mean it's an ideal location for those wishing to enjoy a variety of activities on and off the water. Kayaking and sailing are popular on the lake. The Ullswater Yacht club, The Glenridding Sailing School and Reach Beyond Adventure all provide either courses or equipment hire for days out on the lake. The Ullswater Streamers operate throughout the year from Glenridding to Pooley Bridge stopping off at numerous places along the way. Fishing can be enjoyed from a number of locations with rod licenses available for purchase at Pooley Bridge or Glenridding Tourist Information Centre. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to walking in this area. Helvellyn is perhaps the most popular summit to tackle but High Crag, Fairfield and St Sunday Crag should also be explored. The nearest amenities from Tan are two miles away in Glenridding.
