Menorca, not called the jewel of the Balearic Islands without reason. Often overlooked by tourists for its big sister Mallorca, so less developed and relatively unspoilt, providing a greater opportunity to discover uncrowded coves with shimmering white sand, and crystal clear turquoise water.
Menorca is indeed a gem, smaller and not as mountainous as Mallorca, it has a gentler nature. Here you are able to circumnavigate the whole of the island in just 7 days, making it a perfect destination for a sailing holiday. With around 300 days of sunshine, summer begins In May, and autumn starts in October. The climate is perfect even at the height of the summer, because of the gentle breezes it tends not to get blisteringly hot like many of the Spanish resorts.
Little is known of the inhabitants of prehistoric Menorca, but the island is dotted with many of the ancient monuments that these people have left behind. Throughout the ages it has been invaded by Minoans from Crete, Pheonicians, Romans, Pirates, French and British, all have left their mark.
Today the people of Menorca welcome their current invaders, we the tourists, they are a warm and friendly people, and after their tumultous past, are happy with their new visitors.
This beautiful island has something to offer everyone, busy markets, quiet bays, chic shops, beautiful architecture, sunny weather, delicious food, all this, and only around 2 hours flight from Britain.
Mahon the capital of Menorca, but not always so, it used to be Ciutadella, but the British changed it because of its harbour, considered to be one of the largest natural harbours in the world.
The port has a leisurely relaxing atmosphere during the day, but as the sun goes down, the little bars and restaurants around the harbour become invigorated with a lively buzz as the night commences.
The town has everything that you could wish for ,beautiful churches and monuments, a market that was converted from a convent. Narrow winding streets to explore, shady squares, sophisticated shops, restaurants, with local delicacies, quiet tavernas, noisy bars, something to please everyone.
In the beautiful harbour of Mahon with the water gently lapping at her sides, is where our sailing yacht Neverland is based, and this is where your holiday will start.
