The history in this area takes you 2000 years back to Lycians who are believed to be the first civilizations to apply democracy. The region was always an appealing place for settlement in the history that many different colonies lived here. The Lycians built over 23 cities in the area and today the most famous and visited ones are Patara, Xhantos, Pinara, Olympos, Myra and Tloss.
Romans, Byzantines and Ottomans also have left their cultural marks in these soils after the lycians. There are fascinating mixture of rich factual and mythological history and stories about kings, heroes, saints and worriors.

Nature walk lovers would enjoy interesting and challenging Saklikent Gorge which is 45 minutes drive on Fethiye direction. Kayaköy is a greek ghost town worth seeing near Fethiye. The most photographed famous Lagoon Oludeniz is again just the other side of Fethiye. Tloss, Xhantos, Letoon are some of the ancient cities to visit in the area.
