Barrington House is an elegant historical Victorian property standing on its own gorgeous grounds, beautifully restored and furnished with unbelievable views of the River Dart. It is a haven of peace and tranquility yet only a short stroll down to the heart of Dartmouth.
Most importantly, it is our home that we love to share with visitors. We have a stunning self-catering property called The Penthouse set within the grounds which offers the chance of an exclusive and unforgettable stay for between 2 and 6 guests. It more than satisfies all prerequisites for an idyllic self catering holiday – the space to spread out, comfortable and luxurious accommodation, personal and thoughtful touches and a unique and beautiful setting.

As its name suggests, The Penthouse is set on top of Barrington House. It has just been completely renovated and is simply stunning! It has 3 bedrooms, 3 bathrooms, a huge kitchen/living area, its own private entrance, 2 parking spaces, a beautiful balcony and a large deck perfect for barbecuing and relaxing – what more could you ask for?
The Penthouse is contemporary and modern in its styling, neutral and nautical in its decor – everything is new! Attention to detail and thoughtful planning flow from one room to the next and it has a wonderful open, spacious and relaxing feeling.

The Penthouse balcony certainly has the wow factor - throw open the bifolding doors and only a frameless glass screen separates you from the best views in Darttmouth. This spacious and safely enclosed balcony off the open plan living area is supplemented by further private outdoor space in the form of a large rear terrace complete with BBQ, dining furniture and sun loungers. A perfect spot to catch the evening sun and a decent amount of space for little ones to stretch their legs.
Our description of The Penthouse so far does sound very sophisticated and glamorous but you will be pleased to hear that we are very child friendly. Safety is of course of paramount importance and the one feature of our properties which we must draw your attention to are the balconies. They are not dangerous and are built to building regulation specifications, however children must be supervised at all times when the balcony doors are open. The Penthouse is very well equipped and the list of facilities provided for children is vast. We hope we have negated the need for a roof box or trailer! As well as the long list of facilities, we have also got lots of 'child friendly' ideas which will hopefully appeal to our younger guests and parents alike!
We are so close to so many beautiful beaches.
The award-winning, Blackpool Sands beach is within 10 minutes drive of the house and recently earned the accolade of being named Britain's Best Family Beach by Conde Nast Traveller and we'd tend to agree thanks to its handy car parking, cafe serving healthy kids meals and brilliant sand pit, which is ideal for little ones to sit and play in safety, as well as the wide sandy bay with shallow waters.
A little further afield there's Paignton Zoo, which has a great focus on conservation and animal welfare, as well as handy indoor soft play areas, should the weather not be ideal. There's also the fantastic Pennywell Farm Park with its animal feeding sessions, adorable miniature pigs and handy indoor play area. Steam train enthusiasts should head to Kingswear where a Thomas-a-like puffs up and down the coast thrilling little fans. Whilst the miniature pony centre at nearby Moretonhampstead is generally a big hit with mini riders too.
Barrington House nestles on a hillside just 10 minutes walk from the very picturesque Georgian harbour town of Dartmouth. Known as one of the UK's most popular yachting havens, the town boasts a great selection of independent boutiques, bistros, cafes and convenient shops along its pretty cobbled streets.
Dartmouth is a wonderful bustling town offering something for everyone:
Crab fishing, cinema, pirate park, putting green and the best ice cream flavours for the little ones.
Beautiful boutiques, shoe shops, swim shops, home wares shops and galleries for the grown ups
Quaint and quirky pubs, award winning restaurants, wonderful delies and the best fish and chips for the whole family.
Foodies will not be disappointed, as well as the HQ of Riverfood Organics with its acclaimed kitchen cafe, there's the lovely Sharpham Wine and Cheese outlet with its vineyard and river tours with tastings, plus its own onsite cafe too. Dartmouth also boasts a wide selection of well respected restaurants from fine dining at The Angel or Seahorse, to gourmet fish and chips to eat in or take-away at Mitch Tonk's family-friendly Rockfish Seafood & Chips.
