The East Anglia region

The Broads is Britain's magical waterland, a uniquely beautiful environment shaped by people working hand in hand with nature over thousands of years. This wonderful protected wetland – England's largest – has over 125 miles of safe, enchanting waterways, carefully managed over centuries for people and for nature. Its rivers, broads (shallow lakes), marshes and fens make it a unique area, rich in rare habitats, which support myriad plants and animals. Globally, wetlands are among the most threatened of landscapes.

The Broads is also one of Europe's most popular inland waterways. Once an essential transport network, today the waterways are used for recreation, the whole of the Broads area attracting more than two million visitors a year.

Great Yarmouth

Burgh St Peter is Norfolk's most south-eastern corner and is tucked away in the rural 'triangle' of parishes of Aldeby, Wheatacre and Burgh St Peter. Waveney River Centre sits along the north bank of the River Waveney with fabulous southerly views across the river and marshes. From the Park you can hire a day cruiser or canoe to explore the southern reaches of the Broads, or cross the river using our pedestrian ferry to talk to the nearby village of Oulton Broad or take a longer stroll to Beccles.

Other visitor attractions within 30 minutes drive include Somerleyton Hall & Gardens, Pleasurewood Hills theme park, Caldecott Hall Golf Course, Redwings Horse Sanctuary and Africa Alive. The City of Norwich - also within half an hour - is one of the country's Top 10 Retail Destinations and is steeped in culture and history with its Norman Castle and Cathedral. Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Southwold Beaches, and the Market Towns of Beccles & Bungay, are also close by.
