City of Derry / Londonderry

This cottage is ideally located being close to the historic maiden city of Londonderry, known locally as Derry in Northern Ireland, on the border with Co Donegal. the City is famous for its walls and the siege of 1689. For exercise you can walk or cycle to the City along the specially constructed cycle path just a few hundred meters from the cottage. Derry is the capital city of the North West of Northern Ireland - a vibrant city full of culture which has been awarded 'UK City of Culture 2013'. Definitely the City to visit in 2013 to enjoy the large number of festivities planned for the year. The City of Londonderry / Derry is famed for its many festivals, the historic walls, museums, nightlife and of course that all important shopping scene. The 'Old City' is on the west bank of the River Foyle and is joined to the east side by the double deck Craigavon Bridge in the centre as well as the new 'Peace Bridge' from the Guildhall. The more recent Foyle Bridge is north of the City and links the bypass roads and main routes to other destinations. The cottage is situated just 3.5 miles from the City centre on the border with Co Donegal in the townland of Molenan. This is an attractive farming area running along the Foyle Valley, good for walking, cycling or just 'chilling out' and enjoying the impressive and very green scenery!
