Fern cottage is a luxurious 4 bedroom detached cottage that sleeps 8 in the heart of the small picturesque village of Leigh Upon Mendip near Bath.

Downstairs is a large lounge with a 50 inch flat screen TV with a new hunter wood burning stove. Adjoining is a cosy snug with a second log burner so perfect for those cold winter nights or quiet space to read. It has a fully fitted kitchen with new range cooker complete with everything you will need for your stay and separate dining room that seats 8. There is also a cloakroom which contains a hoover etc and can be used as a small storage room. The cottage also has free Wi-Fi conectivity and includes a small office area for working.

Upstairs there are 4 spacious newly decorated double bedrooms, one of which has en-suite facilities and one twin room. There is also a large separate family bathroom including freestanding bath and a twin sink unit. A travel cot is also available and highchair are also available.

Outside there is a large private car park which can easily fit at least 6 vehicles, a patio area with BBQ and seating, an enclosed garden with trampoline and tree swing that is perfect for children to run around safely. Everything you need for a group or family getaway!

Fern Cottage is approached via Leigh Street down a narrow (7ft 2") driveway so is not suitable for very large vehicles, although 4x4 and SUVs will fit. There is parking outside on the road if required or we can arrange to use the car park of 'The Bell' pub if you need to park a large vehicle off road.

We also have a large paddock which could be used for a marquee if required - please email to discuss.

The village has a traditional pub 'The Bell' which serves local ales and where you can have a pub lunch or a restaurant meal and is only a 2 minute stroll from the cottage, also we have a village shop to purchase day to day requirements milk, eggs etc... Only 6 miles away is the market town of Frome with many shops, pubs, hospital and supermarkets.

The cottage is near the beautiful georgian city of Bath famous for its architecture and the Roman baths, also nearby is the Longleat Estate seat of the Marquis of Bath famous for its Safari park and lion reserve, other attractions within easy distance are Stonehenge, Cheddar Gorge and caves, Glastonbury and Wells.

Nearby train stations are Castle Cary (30 mins drive) or Bath (40 mins drive) which both have direct rail links to London. Wedding venues Babbington House hotel and spa is only 3 miles away and Orchardleigh House is 6 miles away making Fern Cottage an ideal place to stay as a wedding guest. Charlton House is only 15 mins drive and hosts a whole range of top end spa treatments.

We also have 7 bicycles for guests to use ranging from child to adult sizes and guides to many beautiful cycle routes and countryside walks around the area. Malcolm the owner lives nearby and is very happy to help you with anything you need during your stay.

The West Country region

Fern Cottage is situated in the lovely village of Leigh Upon Mendip near Bath, it has many places of interest nearby including the beautiful city of Bath with its Roman Baths, Longleat House and Safari park, Stonehenge, Cheddar Gorge and caves, plus many small villages with links the Nursery Ryhmes including Mells with Little Jack Horner pulling out a plum.

We have many local festivals including the Frome Cheese Show in September, the famous Glastonbury festival is only a short drive away.

Near Fern Cottage are many 'Gastro' pubs to enjoy a beautiful meal, and in Leigh Upon Mendip only a 2 minute walk from the cottage is the Bell Inn serving local ales and bar & restaurant meals.

Staying at Fern Cottage will be a totally relaxing experience, ideal for long country walks,bird watching, fishing,painting,and generally enjoying the beautiful countryside just on your doorstep.

Bath

Fern Cottage is only a 40 minute car journey from the beautiful Georgian city of Bath a UNESCO World Heritage Site which was added in 1987 as a 'Cultural City', with it's many attractions including the famous Roman Baths, Thermae Bath Spa, the Royal Crescent, Art Galleries ( Including the 'Jane Austen Centre', American Museum, Theatre Royal and much much more.

Bath also has fantastic shops and many restaurants in which to dine after a long days shopping trip,there is also many bars, clubs, cafes and wonderful parks in which to relax.

During the summer months there a regular brass band concerts in the parade gardens,and one can just sit in a deck chair have an ice cream and listen to the band. There are also regular tourist buses to let you see the city in all its glory.

Also, within easy reach from Bath via the railway is London, with all its history just waiting to be explored.

Only 16 miles from Fern Cottage is Glastonbury with it's magnificent Abbey and the possible buriel place of the legendary King Arthur. Overlooking Glastonbury is the magical land mark of Glastonbury Tor again steeped in history, linked with the story of the Holy Grail. A chapel was built in around 1100 but destroyed by an earthquake in 1275 leaving only a tower that remains on the Tor to this day. In Glastonbury there are shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants.

Nearby in the village of Street is the ' Clark's Outlet Village' which is well worth a day out and includes shops such as Bennetton, Dartington Crystal, Calvin Klein and many more together with plenty of places for refreshments.

In 2013 the famous Glastonbury festival will be held on Wednesday 26th June to Sunday 30th June, and the final line up has still to be announced but the 2011 festival ( Not held in 2012) included U2, Coldplay, Paul Simon & B B King. This is a fantastic event and only a short drive from Fern Cottage.

Just 12 miles away is the beautiful Cathedral City of Wells, with it's magnificent cathedral which was started in 1180 and mostly completed in 1306 and one of the most impressive in the UK,another wonderful place to visit is the Bishop's Palace with it's moat and gardens and home to the Bishop's of Wells for over 800 years and stands in 14 acres of gardens. There is a weekly Farmers market in Wells every Wednesday.

Another fantastic day out and only 12 miles from the cottage is Longleat House and Safari Park, and home of the 7th Marquess of Bath. Longleat stands in over 900 acres of landscaped parkland designed by Capability Brown, with a further 8000 acres making up the estate. It is a great day out and includes not only the house and it's facinating history but the famous safari park,with Lions, Cheetahs, Elephants plus Monkey mayhem!! Also,just opened this year is the African Village where you can see Giraffe feeding, then take a boat ride that takes you out to see the Gorilla colony on their on exclusive island. There are plenty of places to take refreshments, or just take a picnic and relax in the wonderful parkland.

Cheddar Gorge and the famous caves are only 18 miles from Leigh Upon Mendip, home of the Cheddar man a complete skeleton found in caves and believed to be over 9000 years old which was found in 1903. You can visit the caves, there are two open to the public - Goughs & Cox's named after the people who discovered them and have guided tours. This is another great place for a picnic and there are plenty of places to just sit and relax, and why not take home some real Cheddar Cheese and a jar of Somerset cider.

Just 3 miles from the cottage is the village of Mells which is home to the 'Horner' family as in the Nursery Ryhme 'Little Jack Horner'- the village has an annual daffodil day which is well worth a visit.

Within easy reach of Leigh Upon Mendip are many Gastro pubs in which to enjoy a lovely lunch or evening dinner,also several five star Spa Hotels including Whatley Grange, Babbington House and Charlton House in which to indulge and pamper yourself.
