The Lazio region

Lazio offers both seasides and mountains and lakes. Many historical towns and villages, including the termal baths of Viterbo.

The name of the region also survives in the tribal designation of the ancient population of Latins, Latini in the Latin language spoken by them and passed on to the city-state of Ancient Rome.

Rome

Lively shopping area of Prati, very close to historical sites, St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican Museums-Sistine Chapel, St. Angel Castle, Piazza Navona, Pantheon, piazza Cavour.

As well as Rome, towns such as Viterbo and Tivoli offer medieval architecture, and for nature lovers the lakes Vico and Bolsena are well worth a visit. Lake Posta Fibreno, near to Sora, is also home to a floating island that apparently drifts over the water!
