The Marche/Abruzzo region

The region of Marche is situated in central Italy between the Apennine mountains and the Adriatic coast. It consists of 5 provinces; Pesaro-Urbino, Ancona, Macerata, Fermo and Ascoli-Piceno.

Marche is often called “the green heart” of Italy. The landscape is very varied; wood like in the north, the sloping hills with vineyards, agriculture and orchards in the middle, the Adriatic coast with it's clear blue water in the east and in the west the mountains dominate the landscape. The Monte Vettore at 2476 meters is the highest. Marche is an area where you can enjoy beautiful nature, medieval cities, delicious food and drinks and very friendly people.

The Marche region has a long history. After being dominated by the Piceni, the Romans, the Byzantines, the Longobards, the Frankish, the Popish force, Napoleon and again the Popish force, it finally joined the kingdom of Italy in 1860. You can see many interesting artefacts and live the history in the museums, churches and pinatecae (museum for painting).

In the countryside you can still visit the well kept mediaeval cities, with their castles, town walls and other old buildings. History comes to life at the numerous “feste” and “sagre” in summer, and we are happy to advise you on the best of the best of these.

Beautiful cities to visit are: Fermo, Ascoli Piceno, Macerata, Loreto, Offida and many more.

Montottone

The cute and cosy town Montefiore dell'Aso, like most mediaeval cities, is situated on top of a hill on only 15 km from the Adriatic coast. The town walls and the old centre are well kept and certainly worth a visit. Take a walk through the old town and visit one of the the churches. Stop at the bar for a real Italian Espresso or an aperitivo with the locals.

Montefiore is a lively little town and has everything you'll need: 2 supermarkets, a bakery, a butcher, a garage, a hairdresser, two restaurants a pizzeria and, if necessary, a hospital and pharmacy.

Every 3th sunday of the month there is a small market on the townsquare of Montefiore dell'Aso.
