Les Grange is a secluded property with views all around of the beautiful rolling countryside synonymous with the Dordogne. My family have been coming to this area of France for over 30 years, after falling in love with it, after just one visit! Quiet and Peaceful yet only 30 minutes from the bustling French town of Riberac with its renowned market and many excellent restuarants for enjoying great french cuisine. This area exudes relaxation and a laid back way of life.

The Dordogne is one of the most unspoilt, tranquil regions of South West France, with stunning lush green landscapes, fields of sunflowers in the summer and beautiful traditional architecture. It is ideal for walking, cycling and canoeing and with summer temperatures averaging around 27 to 29 degrees relaxing round the pool or swimming in one of the surrounding cool lakes is fantastic.
There are also numerous beautiful towns, which are worth a visit, if just to wonder around, such as Brantome, Limoge or Angouleme. Many of these French towns have a market once a week, selling all sorts of goods such as childrens toys, beautiful pottery, clothes and of course plenty of fresh French produce! These are as much social occasions as markets and joining in with the hustle and bustle of the locals is always entertaining for adults and children alike!
The Dordogne Valley, has over a 1000 Castles, many Prehistoric caves, shelters and dwellings, Roman and Celtic architecture, Bastides, ancient monasteries etc, of particular note are the caves at Lascaux
whose discovery in 1940 was of great importance for the history of prehistoric art. At Aubterre (approx 40min drive) there is an amazing 12th Century church carved within the mountain which even young children will find fascinating.
The dordogne is a gastronomic centre renowned for production of foie gras, confit -de canard, truffles, cepes and walnuts it has many restaurants with outdoor spaces to dine under the stars. The boulangeries found in most villages are bursting with freshly baked croissants and delicious patisserie and of course it is ideally situated for wine lovers with wine regions of Bergerac, St.Emilion, and Bordeaux wines within reach. Crates of wine can be purchased from the local supermarkets at great prices. You can have lots of fun trying them all to choose which ones to bring home!
Time travels slowly here, nobody is in a rush, in our opinion it is the most relaxing place on earth!
Vendoire is a tiny sleepy village with a stunning chateau and a new restuarant in the old schoolhouse which is within walking distance. A short drive/cycle away is the village of Champagne-et-Fontaine where you can collect croissants in the morning or visit the charming tiny French bar in the evening.
Verteillac is less than 10 Km away and is a large, busy village with a good range of shops, three restaurants, bars and a bank and post office as well as Merlot's shop which sells everything -or so it seems! It is a typical provincial french village, full of character and a great place to visit and stock up on provisions.
There is a fantastic market at Riberac (30 min drive) which is held on Fridays and is very popular. If you get there early you can enjoy breakfast in the very French 'Cafe de Colon'.
Several swimming lakes for are within driving distance some with beaches, canoes, slides and rstaurants, they are great to take a picnic to for the day. Details of these are available in the villa. In Riberac (30 mins) various companies provide canoing this is a great activity for children of all ages with differing lengths of journey etc. There are several weirs some with shoots to canoe down. Many come and collect you by truck so you do not have to row back upstream!
The picturesque old Roman town of Aubeterre is only a short drive away with it's 12th Century church carved out of the rock with it's variety of cafe's and restaurants. There is swimming here also with a man made beach, diving board, tennis courts and a big raft in the middle of the lake which children love to swim out to.
Other activities such as golf and horse riding are also nearby.
There are many excellent restaurants within easy reach offering good quality and great value food. Our house has a detailed ‘house book’ which will give you all the information to make the most of your stay.
Despite all those activities available most people love this area for its peace and tranquility, it really is one of those few 'unspoilt' places left in the world. Where you can totally unwind with your family and friends around you and chill out together!
