Fort Augustus is situated on the south shore of Loch Ness where the Caledonian Canal meets Loch Ness. It is a lively village with good amenities in pubs, restaurants, hotels and village shops to supply your every day needs.It has its own 9 hole golf course only a few minutes from the apartment.You can sail from here on Loch Ness aboard the Royal Scot.
It makes a great base to explore the region as it is only just over one hours drive to Skye and the west coast with its silver sands. To the north visit the many castles in the area, Urquhart castle, Cawdor and Inverness castles and the famous Eilan Donan castle is within an hours drive. Culloden Battlefield and Fort George are worthy of a visit and you can go and watch or sail with the dolphins in the Moray firth.
To the south is Ben Nevis and its mountain range and the Harry Potter steam train to Mallaig sets off from Fort William.
For the Geocachist enthusiast there are a number of routes around Loch Ness from short routes to day trips.
RockNess is held in June each year in the northern end of the Loch.
Within Fort Augustus village there are music evenings and in the summer a weekly celeidh. The hotels sometimes provide music evenings.
Invergarry castle house hotel does a nice afternoon tea where you can sit and enjoy an afternoon overlooking Loch Oich in the comfort of this old baronial style house.
There is a rare breeds farm in the village to take young children to see the highland cattle and other animals.
A horse riding school is situated in the next village and at Drumnadrochit there is the Loch Ness visitor centre.
Alternatively you can enjoy the peace and tranquility of the twenty acres of the Abbey's grounds.
For the adventurous, white water rafting, canoeing, kayaking, archery and clay pigeon shooting can be arranged on site.
