The Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea is home to some of the most enjoyable and interesting attractions in London. From the hip and trendy King’s Road (3 minute walk) to the ever popular Fulham Road (1 minute walk - also known as "The Beach" in Chelsea for it's wealth of restaurants, bars, clubs, cafes, etc.); the shopping havens on King's Road, Kensington High Street, and Knightsbridge (Harrods, Harvey Nichols) are also all in walking distance; the fantastic greenery and scenery of Kensington Gardens, Hyde Park and Battersea park are also all nearby; as well as London’s top museums (Victoria and Albert, Natural History Museum, Science Museum) which are located less than 15 minutes walk in South Kensington.
In terms of history, the area in recent years had connection with Princess Diana, who resided at Kensington Palace. (And indeed, you could often see Princess Diana shopping in the area, or visiting local cafes or the cinema on Kensington High Street) as well as still see her sons the Princes visiting local establishments. Further back, the area is famous for where “Swinging London” emerged from in the mid-60s in places like King’s Road (which was definition of bohemian style and fashion in the 60s as many artists such as the Beatles and the Rolling Stones lived in the neighbourhood, also saw the birth of punk music and style in the 70s), Kensington Market and Biba Fashion House (now the location of a Marks and Spencer on Kensington High Street).
Nowadays, amongst other things, Kensington and Chelsea is known as the most affluent borough in Britain. Whilst this means that the area is home to some of the priciest properties and features some of the most luxurious boutiques and restaurants in the country, there’s still plenty to enjoy for people on any budget! Visitors come to Chelsea and South Kensington to explore many of the area’s attractions, whilst at the same time, the pretty area has lovely streets and squares, and is considered very safe so a great part of London to stay in. There’s also plenty of restaurants for all budgets, and entertainment options (pubs, bars, clubs, cinemas and theatres) plus very good shopping opportunities so there’s plenty to keep you occupied.
The flat's borough of Kensington & Chelsea has so many well known sights located in it, all in walking distance, from the museums of South Kensington, to the royally connected Kensington (the Palace, the Albert Memorial and the Royal Albert Hall, for example) to famous areas such as Sloane Square, Knightsbridge, Notting Hill and the Royal parks. There’s also plenty of restaurants, bars, cafes, shops, theatres and cinemas to enjoy your time in. Here follows a little a guide to some of the best things to see and do in the Royal Borough - all in easy walking distance from the flat.
Sightseeing in Kensington & Chelsea - Local galleries on Kings Road, antique shops on Fulham Road, the Chelsea Physic Garden, Battersea Park (tennis, zoo, lakes, ponds, athletic facilities, etc.), Hyde Park (swans, ducks, lakes, gardens, vast expanses of lush greenery)
Kensington & Chelsea For Kids
Where to take the little ones – playgrounds near Sydney street (5-10 minute walk), exhibits and restaurants – that they’ll enjoy! Plus plenty of shops (Pure Baby, Igloo) minutes away that might be useful if you need to stock up on baby or children’s items – or toys!
Sainsbury's, Marks and Spencer, Tesco, and Waitrose supermarkets are between 30 second and 5 minute walk from the flat. In addition, there are loads of specialty artisan bakeries, butchers, fishmongers, italian, french grocers minutes away. Kings Road, Fulham Road and Old Brompton Road are the best streets, with so many stores and markets to shop at and where to pick up food supplies if you need them.
Eating in Kensington & Chelsea - There are so many options it's incredible, but our favourite restaurants, cafes and other places to eat in the area include Busaba Eatthai, Blubird, and Ranoush on Kings Road, as well as Sophie's Steakhouse and Vingt Quatre (24 hour dining) on Fulham road.
Pubs & Bars
Thirsty for a drink or cold beer? My favourite bars nearby the flat include The Drayton Arms, The Anglesea Arms (great pub on a summer's evening), Beaufort House, and Kosmopol. There are so many options to suit any taste!
Cinemas & Theatres - There are 3 cinemas all within a 5 minute walking distance (Cineworld 1 minute away and Curzon Chelsea on Kings Road), as well as theatres including the Royal Court Theatre in Sloane Square just nearby.
Fitness - Besides the lovely nearby Royal parks and outdoor spaces, there are a whole number of fully kitted gyms and fitness centres that offer pay as you go and short term membership options. From Lomax (30 seconds walk from the flat), Triyoga Chelsea (3 minute walk from the flat), to Virgin Active (2 minute walk from the flat) to Chelsea Sports Centre and LA Fitness (10 minute walk from the flat), there are tons of ways to stay fit during your stay
