Beaches and surfing in NSW
If a world championship competition for the best beaches was held, New South Wales would have to be disqualified on grounds of unfair advantage. The State’s coastline stretches 1590km with a grand total of 892 beaches including Sydney’s famed harbour and ocean beaches and seven of Australia’s National Surfing Reserves.
With all that choice, you’re bound to find just the right beach for a surfing weekend, a surfing road trip or a fun-packed beach holiday with the kids. World-famous surf breaks attract keen surfers from around the globe but there are also plenty of beaches where you can learn to surf with an accredited surf school.
Great food and wine across NSW
Award-winning top-rated restaurants are liberally sprinkled across New South Wales from Leura to Orange, Byron to Mildura with committed chefs attracted by the abundant, quality, seasonal produce. You can stock up on delicious gourmet goodies at the farm gate, artisan bakeries, family-owned wineries and the regular farmers’ markets that are now a tourist feature of most major NSW towns.
Stay for a short break or long weekend to enjoy a regional cooking class or wine tasting course. Impress your friends with rare vintages, organic hand-made cheeses and fresh seafood from some of the cleanest waters in the world or a box of succulent organic figs, juicy peaches or crisp apples.
On your travels you’ll also discover that some foodie pleasures never fade. Lunch on the veranda of an old country pub, fish and chips on the beach, an afternoon cream tea in a quaint café or tasting fine wine made by a third generation wine-maker.
NSW road trips and scenic drives
The best scenic drives take you on road trips of sheer pleasure and discovery. In New South Wales, there are tourist drives and scenic road trips that let you explore at your own pace, spend time with the whole family on a new adventure or meet new friends in a holiday park.

Bondi Beach is Australia's most famous beach with glorious golden sands, stunning surf and a vibrant seaside village. It's a great destination for people watching, surfing, swimming, shopping and dining in one of the 130+ cafes and restaurants.
Near the beach is the lively tourist strip on Campbell Parade but make sure you head up Hall St, Gould St and Glenayr Ave to enjoy the more vibrant heart of the village with designer boutiques, funky cafes, galleries, organic foods and endless eclectic shops. Explore the bondi beach business Directory to discover everything on offer.
Visitors should be a little wary. Strong rip currents can take swimmers by surprise and for those trying body surfing for the first time, the waves can be very powerful. Stingers can also be a hazard at certain times of year. Please always swim between the flags.
Only ten minutes in a car to Sydney's CBD, where you can visit The Opera House and Harbour Bridge. Or search on the RTA (Sydney's Roads and Traffic Authority) for ways to get around Sydney with the public transport buses and trains.
