The North West Italy region

The beautiful region of Piedmont is situated in the triangle Milan, Turin and Genoa. Known for its landscapes, slow food, great wines and truffles. A charming hilly area, that comprises the winelands of Langhe and Monferrato. Historic cities Moncalvo (5 minutes) Asti (25 min), Alba (45 min), Bra and the vineyards&wineries of Barolo, Barbera, Nebbiolo, Roero are nearby. These cities offer splendid restaurants with great wines and local Piedmont cuisine.

The climate is warm but more comfortable compared to Mid and South Italy.

The Piedmont is a land of Course: more than 15 clubs with 18 holes, some of which are among the best in Italy. Driving ranges, golf schools and pitch and putt are nearby. In Asti: Circolo Golf Città d'Asti (www.golfcittadiasti.it) and Golf Feudo d'Asti (www.astigolf.it). Other activities are for instance horse riding, (bike) trekking, mountain biking, climbing, cycling, and swimming.

Ippovia del Monferrato allows for horseback riding in the splendid landscape of the Asti hills. This is a 230 km itinerary and the route has been divided into 13 stages, with rest stops ready to receive horses and riders. In addition, there are eight inner roads extending the entire selection of practicable trails for another 150 km.

Even in autumn there are many celebrations and events, such as Palio d'Asti, truffle markets, wine-, and Piedmont food festivals.

Moncalvo

Moncalvo - 'the smallest city in Italy' - is 3 km away. The centre has a nice piazza, a weekly market on Thursday and monthly antique market on every first Sunday. There are really good restaurants with local specialties and pizzerias, as well as delis and supermarkets. On the city piazza you can have a lovely cappuccino for only 1.30 euro and a pizza for 5 euro.

It is said, that Piedmont can be compared with Tuscany 30 years ago. Just as beautiful, pristine, well preserved.

The famous Palio d'Asti 9 (spectacular horse race) is held every 3rd Sunday of September.
