The Dovecote is in an idyllic spot in the peaceful Northumbrian countryside. Set in a georgian walled Kitchen garden with views over the hills and with its own private south facing terrace.

Ideal for a romantic break or a rural retreat. It is not for you if you want a big spacious house but it is very beautiful, full of rustic charm, truly unique and secluded. The only noise likely to disturb you is the birds!

It's on the central section of Hadrian's Wall and so is perfect for walkers and for exploring our Roman past. The historic market town of Hexham with its 12th century Abbey is just 10 mins away.

There is salmon fishing on the North Tyne just down the lane or you can play golf on the beautiful courses at Matfen Hall or Hexham (both less than 15 mins drive).

The Dovecote is also available on a B&B basis - please see our website for details - and we also have 3 double / twin ensuite rooms available in the main georgian farmhouse available for B&B.

The Northumberland region

Northumberland is the northernmost county in North East England.

The area was once part of the Roman Empire and as Northumberland it was the scene of many wars between England and Scotland. Northumberland has more castles than any other county in England, including the castles of Alnwick, Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh, Newcastle and Warkworth.

Hexham is a market town and civil parish in Northumberland, England, located south of the River Tyne.

Hexham's architectural landscape is dominated by Hexham Abbey. The current church largely dates from c.1170–1250, in the Early English Gothic style of architecture. The choir, north and south transepts and the cloisters, where canons studied and meditated, date from this period. The east end was rebuilt in 1860.

Hexham was named 'England's Favourite Market Town' by the magazine Country Life.
