The Sibillini Mountains, located only 50 kilometers from the Adriatic coast, afford many enjoyable, scenic walks at elevations up to 8000 feet. The walks vary from easy, meandering up some gentle valleys, to very strenuous over the tops of the mountains. In every case there are wonderful panoramas and the wide variety of habitat ensures a rich assortment of wild flowers, and spectacular countryside particularly in the spring and fall.
Wine alone could provide a worthy motive for touring this area. With 7 D.O.C. wines and vineyards and wineries to tour. The region has made a decided effort to move towards low impact organic farming methods, resulting in small farms producing top-quality produce. Cheeses, ham, salami, olive oil, wheat for pasta, lentils and truffles. Apart from the lovely fresh food, Marche boasts sandy beaches, 250 art galleries and museums, 150 castles and fortresses, 200 Romanesque churches, 40 abbeys, several National Parks, 170 medieval towers and 33 archaeological sites. Add to that stunning landscapes, sunshine, shoe and designer outlet shopping, Italian ice cream and smiling people - what more could a visitor want?
