Stable Mews offers a quiet & peaceful holiday destination in the heart of beautiful Somerset.
The property was new on the market for 2012 with completely new bathroom & kitchen fitted then. The comfort of our guests is very important to us so in 2014 we have upgraded the double mattress and put new beech sprung-slat bed frames in the twin room.
It has its own private courtyard and garden and an outhouse which could be used for cycle storage.
The gardens overlook a private equestrian yard with a friendly horses including a youngster in residence.
Directly from the property you can cycle, walk or run along a network of quiet country lanes. For walkers/runners there are also meandering footpaths along field margins.
The local village has a pub & shop, both just 10 mins walk. The shop, despite its small size, sells an impressively large range of goods including home made quiches, steak & ale pie and cakes along with freshly baked croissants and bread. They serve teas/coffees (to accompany the excellent cakes!) & light lunches. The pub is a freehouse where a variety of local ales are available and they serve lunch & dinner including a fish & chip night on Mondays (eat in or take out).
Here in Curry Mallet we experience something of a micro-climate, enjoying clear skies when the surrounding hills have rain. Newcomers to the area remark that the skies & light are frequently quite beautiful.

We moved to Somerset just over a decade ago and its quiet beauty has captured our hearts.
It may not have the high drama of some mountainous areas of Britain, but the Somerset hills are nonetheless beautiful despite their smaller size, and all the more accessible because of it. Each range has its own character, indeed Somerset is a county of contrasts. It has coastline with everything from long sweeping sandy beaches to seaside resorts, harbours and marinas. Inland as well as the hills, there are moorlands, ancient woodlands, Cheddar Gorge and the famous wetland habitats: the Somerset Levels. There are many historic towns & villages and a varied culture that includes willow and cider making, great local food & drink, the legends of Kings Arthur and Alfred, not forgetting the historic towns/cities of Glastonbury, Wells, Bath and more.
The area around Curry Mallet contains a wide variety of birds & animals. From buzzards and owls to swifts and skylarks. Each spring Nightingales sing in neighbouring Beercrocombe. There are also deer, foxes and hares and of course lots of rabbits!
The old market towns of Ilminster and Somerton (the ancient Royal Town of Wessex) are just a short drive from Curry Mallet and the county town, Taunton, is not far away with its shops and amenties.
There are many National Trust properties within easy reach and for steam enthusiasts, there is also the West Somerset Railway (www.west-somerset-railway.co.uk).
Thornfalcon Classics host a large lunchtime classic car meet each year on a Sunday in early September. The show attracts over a thousand cars of all marques and ages (www.thornfalconclassics.com).
For a real taste of local culture look out for the Somerset Illuminated Carnivals. These take place between the end of September and mid November. The nearest venues for these extravagant events are Ilminster and Taunton. Check out www.somersetcarnivals.co.uk/events.asp for details.
Another event specific to the Somerset Levels is the Lowland Games. Activities include dog shows, childrens games, river raft races & the infamous mud wrestling www.thelowlandgames.co.uk
