If you tire of relaxing around the lodge, you'll find a host of interesting and historic places within easy reach. Choose from archetypal beautiful Cotswold villages; cities and towns with fascinating pasts to discover; canals and railways being restored; numerous events throughout the year - and even the famous white horses carved into the hillsides.
There are so many places worth visiting that we can only give you a small flavour of what's in store for you.
If you're looking for beautiful Cotswold villages then head for The Slaughters (Upper and Lower), Castle Combe, Bibury and Bourton on the Water.
The slightly larger towns of Stow on the Wold, Burford, Broadway, Chipping Campden, Cirencester and Tetbury offer a fascinating insight into life in the Cotswolds in days gone by, with their market squares and wool churches, as well as a host of individual shops
Bristol has a fascinating maritime and industrial past as well as thriving harbourside and shopping areas, whilst Bath has Roman history and of course the famous spa waters.
Swindon has the Steam railway museum and the Outlet Village as well as the Science Museum at Wroughton, Gloucester has the historic docks and of course the Cathedral which is one of the stars in the Harry Potter films; whilst Cheltenham has a wide choice of up market shops and a number of highly rated restaurants.
The Forest of Dean offers some beautiful walks, country pubs by the River Wye and well-marked mountain bike trails.
Motorsports fans will want to head for Castle Combe circuit and Prescott Hillclimb, whilst if steam is your thing, the Swindon & Cricklade railway is only a few miles away and runs most days of the week in the summer months. Or for something rather bigger, head for the Crofton Beam Engines during a weekend when they're in steam.
Finally, remember that London is within 90 minutes or so - a straightforward drive by car, or a relaxing train ride from Kemble or Swindon.
What will you do during your stay? Follow some of the many walks around the lakes in the area? Try your hand at water skiing or cable skiing? Birdwatching? Fishing? Cycling? Horse riding? Relax in a spa? Work up a sweat in a gym? Relax over a good meal and a few drinks? You can do all this - and more - without even needing to drive. If you're happy to drive, we've listed some suggestions below.
The village of South Cerney is a short walk away, and has three good pubs. Opposite the lake is the Four Pillars hotel, with its Old Boathouse gastropub, whilst the Brasserie on Spring Lake offers pub food and live music most weekends. There are many other country pubs nearby - why not find your own 'gem'? Cycle hire is available from Go By Bike close to Keynes Country Park - where you'll find a beach and numerous other facilities. The Four Pillars opposite also has Spa6, a luxurious and relaxing way to be pampered, as well as a fitness suite and pool, and we supply 6 one day passes for this facility. Unfortunately we do need to make an additional charge of £15 for each pass used, which we deduct from the security deposit refund due. Further day passes can be purchsed directly from Spa6.
