Portstewart is situated on the breathtaking coast of Northern Ireland. Oceans 14 looks out on the rolling waves of the Atlantic Ocean. From the Promenade you can see the roiling hills of Donegal with rocky cliffs and headlands. The Harbour is a working fishing port and boat trips along the coast are well worth wrapping up for!
There are a host of tourist attractions such as the Mussenden Temple located in the beautiful surroundings of Downhill Demesne near Castlerock. It perches dramatically on a 120 ft cliff top, high above the Atlantic Ocean, offering spectacular views westwards over Downhill Strand towards Magilligan Point and County Donegal and to the east Castlerock beach towards Portstewart, Portrush and Fair Head.
The Causeway Coast Way, an exhilarating walking route following the dramatic north Ulster coastline goes from Portstewart to Ballycastle along a Designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty over sandy beaches, rocky bays, high cliffs, seaside resorts and small fishing villages.
The Flowerfield Centre is central to Portstewart's flourishing arts and cultural scene along with numerous art galleries and music festivals. Jimmy Kennedy who also wrote ‘Teddy Bear’s Picnic’ penned ‘Red Sails in the Sunset’ overlooking Portstewart Bay. The annual festival to commemorate the song is a highlight of the summer season. This year it takes place at Portstewart Crescent from Sun 22rd July to Sat 28th July.
The Crescent offers lots for kids and families with play pools and rides, a bandstand and tiered seating. From there it's a bracing route around the magnificent Cliff Walk leading to Portstewart Strand – perfect for surfing, diving and other water sports.
Portstewart Strand is 2 miles of gorgeous white sand and dunes with rolling surf and is a blue flag award winning beach. There is also a way-marked nature trial.
If golf is your passion you'll find some of the best in the Triangle area. The 2012 Irish Open will be held at the nearby Royal Portrush in June and every year in May the North West 200 Road Race attracts motor cycle fans from across Europe.
Portstewart is a short drive from Ireland’s only UNESCO world heritage site – the Giant’s Causeway – well worth a visit and you might just see Finn Mc Cool.
