West Penwith is Rosamunde Pilcher country..... the entire "boot" (from Penzance through to Sennen, Lands End, Zennor, St Ives and Marazion) has something for everyone.
Stunning scenery, sandy coves, long wide beaches, the World Heritage tin mining area at Pendeen, craggy moors and quaint fishing villages such as Mousehole (which Dylan Thomas once said was the loveliest village in England) and St Ives. From nearby the ferry to the Scilly Islands can be taken for a day trip.
Penzance is a charming old historical market town. Chapel Street is famous and has the quaint Egyptian House and pubs such as The Admiral Benbow and The Union, plus some good restaurants, The Bakehouse, The Assay House and Untitled. At the end of this street down by the harbour is The Boatshed. Emily Bronte once lived on this street.
In May the town holds The Golowan Festival for a week when the streets are alive with music and dance. From Penzance, there is easy access to the wonderful coastline either by car, or bus. Newlyn and Mousehole are only 4 miles away and a wonderful walk along the sea side. A catamaran can be taken for a gentle sail along the coast, looking for basking sharks, dolphins and a sea side view of the famous Minnack Theatre built into the cliffs by Rowena Cade in the 1920's. This is an outside theatre cut into the cliffs by Porthcurno beach and well worth attending a show during the summer months. (take a picnic!)
