There is an open plan living room, kitchen and dining area with vaulted ceiling and views down to the lake. Sliding doors open onto a deck which is great for barbecues in the summertime (it had a massive 640 sq ft wraparound extension added in October 2012, sorry - no pictures yet!) and separate sliding doors lead to a sunroom. The living room has a fireplace, satellite television/ dvd, ipod speakers, a luxurious new leather L-shaped sofa (again, no pictures yet, pending!) and a wonderful view down to the lake. The kitchen is very well equipped with an island unit, quality microwave, convection oven, fridge, blender and plenty of crockery and utensils. The dining room seats 8 while 3 barstools provide further eating space at the island unit.
There are two bedrooms and a bathroom on the main floor as well as a washing machine and tumble drier. The master bedroom has double sliding doors and a balcony looking down to the lake while the other bedroom has a double bed with a single bunk over it. The bathroom has a bath with shower.
Downstairs there is a recreation room with another television, dvd player and a games machine. There is a small utility and double doors lead outside. |Further details outdoors|
Outside there is a firepit - great for roasting marshmallows and stargazing- as well as a basketball net.
A path leads down to the lake where there are 2 waterfront areas. The dock is out from June until September and it leads out to deep water, suitable for diving. There is also a gradual entry area with rock steps leading down into the water - good for young children. The lake has been measured to be one of the cleanest in Ontario and it warms up in the summer for excellent swimming and boating. A canoe is available for use and further boats can be rented in Haliburton.
There is plenty of wildlife in the area. We usually see deer when driving up the road at dusk, while wild turkeys, beaver and heron have all been seen.
The lake is well stocked for fishing, with bass and lake trout.
The cottage is fully winterized and is accessible in the wintertime - please note that a four wheel drive or snow chains may be necessary.
Up to 2 well-behaved dogs may be permitted - please enquire.
Pricing for Peak Holiday Weekends: Please see website for peak weekend pricing.
July and August are busy as everyone heads north for the lakes from the hot and humid city areas: Besides the swimming, canoeing, hiking and sunbathing at the cottage itself, places nearby provide waterskiing, golf, tennis, etc.
September is very quiet with children having returned to school- the days remain warm while the evenings are cooler.
At the end of September the leaves start changing colour and the autumn colours are glorious - generally until mid October.
In the winter cross country skiing, toboganning and ice-fishing are possible from the cottage, while dog-sledding and downhill skiing are a 30-45 minute drive away.
The cottage is a 20 minute drive from the lovely village of Haliburton, an old logging town 2 hours drive north of Toronto. Haliburton has shopping, restaurants, a lovely gallery, boat rentals and an internet cafe. Haliburton Forest has a Wolf Centre as well as a ""Walk in the Clouds Tree Top Canopy Walk"".
The cottage is also near the Algonquin Provincial Park- a huge (7630 square kms) wildlife preserve perfect for canoeing trips/ hiking/ camping/ fishing.
Bancroft, the ""Gem Capital of Canada"" is a 30 minute drive.
