The Languedoc-Roussillon region of France, close to Spain and the Pyrénées, is warm in summer, with crisp, cold winters, and sunshine for most of the year. There are ancient Cathar castles, medieval towns, mountain walkways, and many outdoor sports. Explore nature at its best... with tumbling rivers and waterfalls, woodlands, grassy paths with thyme and rosemary underfoot... and wild flowers, birds and butterflies.
While staying In Limoux there is an opportunity to explore our Cathar heritage, with the stunning beauty of La Cité at Carcassonne, now a World Heritage Centre, unforgettable Château de Peyrepertuse, and the mystery of Montségur. Music and theatre are paramount... Carcassonne Festival of Arts in June and July is known for its theatre, dance and music concerts, many free and outdoors, including stunning shows in La Cité. Summer also brings the Tour de France, passing through Limoux to the Pyrénées, and many outdoor activities, including vélos and kayaks to hire, trips on the Canal du Midi, outdoor swimming pools and spectacular mountain walks. Narbonne is easily reached, with its beautiful sandy beaches, with the opportunity to visit Gruissan and Collioure, home of fishermen and artists.
