Skylark Cottage is a traditional stone built farm cottage with loads of biomass heating, pumped from our farm boilers. If you like to be warm and cosy then look no further! All electricity and heating are included in the holiday price so all you need to do is to focus on having a wonderful holiday.

Skylark is all on ground floor level and has a good-sized sitting room with large comfy sofas and a log burner. The bedrooms are all double sized with lots of storage space. We provide John Lewis bed linen and luxury cotton towels (all included in the rental price). The cottage also benefits from complementary Wi-Fi access, a wonderful enclosed play park beside the cottage and all of stunning Northumberland on your doorstep.

Skylark Cottage has a large garden (all lawn) overlooking open countryside, perfect for barbeques or a glass of wine with a good book, listening to peace perfect peace.

We are incredibly family friendly at Thornton and aim to offer a home from home holiday. We can always set up the travel cot and highchair ready for your arrival. Come and spot a guinea fowl, help collect the eggs and feed the lambs. We have miniature donkeys who are very cheeky but do love some attention.

Thornton is a small organic arable farm which has been worked by the Smales Family since 1948. We work very hard at our organic status and this results in amazing bird life and wildlife, right on our doorstep. Guests are more than welcome to wander around the farm tracks and we love to hear of what they've seen. For wildlife lovers, Thornton boasts hares, deer & RSPB reported 51 species of birds. Pets are more than welcome to stay at Skylark Cottage and we can even provide maps so guests can try to spot Corn Buntings or Tree Sparrows.

Skylark Cottage is 10 minutes from Berwick-upon-Tweed and 5 minutes from Norham where you can find a butcher, baker, grocer and a pub. Attractions in the local area include the world-famous Lindisfarne (a 20 minute drive), Alnwick Gardens, Heatherslaw Light Railway & our family favourite, The Chainbridge Honey Farm.

Northumberland is steeped in history, from England/Scotland Invasions (Norham Castle, Flodden Field), coastal invasions (Bamburgh & Dunstanburgh Castles) to Hadrian's Wall in the South.

It is generally warmer May - September, with the chance of snow in the winter, although we have not had any this year.

- The walled town of Berwick upon Tweed

- The Holy Island of Lindisfarne
