The Pays de la Loire region

The Loire Valley is known as 'the garden of France' and is within easy driving distance of the Channel ports, particularly Caen. The climate is generally warm and sunny in the summer and mild in the winter. For sports enthusiasts there are water sports on the rivers and lakes as well as man made beaches. For history lovers there are numerous chateux as well as museums and cave dwellings to visit. For wine enthusiasts there is wide range of vineyards to visit which produce red, white and sparkling wines. For those just wishing peace and quiet there are quiet roads and beautiful views.


Bauge is part of the historical Anjou region. In the town there is an imposing chateux containing a museum of art and history. Also in the town is the Chapel de la Girouardiere which contains the Cross of Anjou, said to be made from wood from the cross on which Christ died and a medieval hospital containing a 17th century apothecary. There are markets on Monday afternoon and Saturday morning.

Angers is famous for its imposing fortress and medieval Tapestry of the Apocolypse, Saumur for its vineyards and troglodyte sites not to mention its tank museum and nearby mushroom museum. There are zoos at La Fleche and Doue la Fontaine and Holly Park is a theme park near Bauge. Le Mans has a fantastic medieval quarter with one of the largest cathedrals in France, the 24 hour race takes place in June, the vintage classic in July every second year and the automobile museum is open all year round. Tours is known as Petit Paris with its imposing hotel de ville, city hall, cathedral,l cobbled streets and stylish shops.

There is an 18 hole golf course at Bauge/Ponignac, tennis at Noyant and Le Lude, beach and watersports at La Fleche.

All local towns and cities have a range of cafes restaurants and bars, many villages do too.
