L'Albizia is one of the three charming self-catering cottages set in La Petite Devinie with 7 acres of ground, on the out skit of the village of Pont St Mamet. It is conveniently situated for holiday makers being just under 20 minutes from Bergerac and its airport and easy access to a motorway junction. It is full of rural charm but not isolated.

Situated on an elevated position, La Petite Devinie offers stunning panoramic views of the rolling countryside, the surrounding farmland and woods.

There is an added bonus of being just 5 minutes' walk from the village of Pont St Mamet which has an excellent village shop that does not even close at lunch hours. Enjoy your morning strolls into the village for croissants and freshly baked baguette, pick up an English newspapers and even some tonic water! Our neighbours down the lane are market gardeners. They are happy to supply our guests with really fresh produces such as lettuces, vegetables, free range eggs and chicken.

L' Albizia is named after the beautiful silk tree on the ground behind the cottages. The gite retains the charm typical of the region's architecture in their exposed beams and stone work. It overlooks the lovely large 12 x 6 pool as well as the beautiful surrounds.

A bright and spacious lounge offers a large 3-seater rattan sofa with luxury cushions as well as a settee which turns into a sofa bed. Colour TV with over 100 satellite channels; DVD player; book cases with books and ornaments. Lovely table and floor lamps create a warm and beautiful ambience in this living area with stone walls and exposed beams.

The dinning area has an oval table with seating for 6 persons.

The gite has its separate entrance on the side of the building and a private and sun trench terrace with marvellous views. Ideal for al-fresco dinning and sharing precious moments with your family or friends with a nice glass of wine. You can admire the gorgeous stars in those warm summer nights and several of the guests had spotted shooting stars across the sky.

La Petite Devinie is half way between Bergerac and Perigueux.

Perigueux, the capital city of the Dordogne has a charming cathedral, lovely shops and vibrant weekly markets is only a short distance away. Bergerac with its narrow streets, timber houses and harbour is under 20 minutes drive from this holiday home.

The tourist hotspots such as Sarlat, Dommes an Les Eyzies are all within easy reach by car.

In the summer months, there are plenty of attractions and entertainments in the area, such as jazz and blue concerts, free music festival in the street, mime festival, night markets, etc in different towns and villages.

There is canoeing in Perigueux, Mussidan and Limeuil.

For those who enjoy biking and walking, the countryside is at your door step. There are plenty of good walks nearby and paths for cycling.

La Petite Devinie is truly the perfect place to chill out, to explore the beauty and the history of Perigord, to enjoy its cuisine and its wines and to experience rural South West France.

The gite had been re-decorated throughout for the season of 2011.

The living, dinning and kitchen areas are all open plan.

The fitted well-equipped kitchen has a electric hob, microwave, oven & grill, fridge with freezer, cafetéria, new sauce and frying pans as well as a washing machine.

There is a downstairs toilet with wash basin and an enclosed shower. The 2 bedrooms and bathroom with new shower attachment and shower curtain are upstairs.

Brand new bed linen and towels are provided in all the bedrooms.

The double bedroom has a built in wardrobe, bedside cabinets with table lamps and a chest of drawer.

The twin bedroom can sleep 3 persons. It has 2 single beds and each has it owns bedside cabinet with table lamp on it. One of the single beds opens up as a double bed. There is also a wardrobe and a chest of drawer. Both bedrooms feature exposed beams and stone walls.

The pool is maintained and clean daily has new lining in 2012.

The terrace is planted with lavenders and marigolds.

There are outdoors furniture, sun loungers and parasol.

The property has generous gardens, lawns, meadow & woodland. Guests are welcome to wander around, play badminton, boules and foot ball.

The huge walnut tree provides welcome shading in the summer, to read, unwind and admire the marvellous views and surrounds.

At midday and seven in the evening, it is a delight to hear church bells floating gently across the hills from the distant village of Douville.

La Devinie is situated in Purple Perigord, a region known for its red and delicious semi sweet wines excellent with foie gras. There are plenty of chateaux and vineyards close by. Come to stay at the self-catering cottage to explore and discover the fine wines of Bergerac, Perchament and Mobazillac.

The owner Isabel, is an aficianado of the wines of South Western France with Diplomas from The Wine & Spirits Trust in London. She offers daily wine tasting tours for a minimum of 2 persons, on an intimate and flexible basis. If you like to add another pleasurable dimension to your holiday to visit chateaux and vineyards and to improve your wine knowledge, this is the ideal place for you!

She is more than happy to take you on a wine tour and share her knowledge of the local wine with you over a glass of her favourite.

Nearby Villamblard and Vergt offer unique opportunities to take the flavours of the region home. Villamblard has its own nationally renowned distillery where you can purchase liquors and cordials in the quaint distillery shop. Vergt has a strawberry fair each June where many different varieties grown around here can be sampled.

The Dordogne region

Dordogne is one of the most beautiful and popular destinations in France.

The region is renowned for its diversity of landscapes, the richness of its cuisine and a wealth of activities on offer to visitors. It is steeped in history and culture with prehistoric caves, bastide towns, churches, gardens, castles and medieval villages. Your will enjoy wandering through the famous towns and villages such Sarlat, Domme, La Roque-Gageac and Bergerac with the twisted back streets and ancient buildings; discovering their heritage of bygone ages as well as shopping in the French markets.

The Dordogne river is enchanting. Take a boat ride on one of those old barges and glide past some of Perigord's most beautiful sights. It is great for those who like activities in the open air, such as canoeing, rafting, fishing and swimming. Hot air ballooning is another adventure which is popular, visitors can admire the stunning landscapes and beautiful sites from above.

The climate is hot in the summer and warm in the Spring and Autumn season.

Bergerac

Bergerac is a lovely town which offers all the amenities. The old town has wonderful timber buildings, narrow streets and a statue of Cyrano de Bergerac. You can embark on a barge tour on the river Dordogne, at the Maison du Vines sample the sumptuous local wines and the adjacent cloister holds free evening concerts in the summer months. Saturday and Wednesdays are market days in Bergerac. You will find seasonal local produces such as strawberries, honey, vegetables, walnuts, truffles, free range meats and chicken and lovely fresh baked breads in abundant.

In our area, there are many jazz concerts throughout the year and they are often held in château and vineyards. A pre-concert dinner is sometimes on offer at a very reasonable price.

InJuly and August , the 'night markets' in various villages are a great favourite of the locals and tourists alike where one could enjoy the delights of the local cuisine outdoors in the warm summer evenings with music and sometimes dance and often end with fire works towards midnight.

It is an ideal place to discover and 'déguster' the wines of Bergerac, Perchament & Mobazillac, the vineyards are just a short drive from the gites. Other famous châteaux in St Emilion, Pomerol and Bordeaux are also within easy reach.

The area has many restaurants offering local gastronomy with such mouth watering cuisine like confit de canard and foie gras. There is a Michelin starred restaurant just 20 minutes away from the gites.

For those who like walking or cycling, the gorgeous countryside is at the doorstep of La Petite Devinie.

There is a riding school 15 minutes away and golf courses are about 1/2 hour drive.
