Lucca is a beautiful, largely undiscovered city, a 30 minute drive from Pisa and 1 hour from Florence. Monte San Quirico is an exclusive residential area just to the north of Lucca, over the river Serchio, with good links by car, bike or bus into the centre.
The weather and climate in Lucca is warm and pleasant in the spring, summer and early Autumn, with lots of sun. Due to its proximity to the coast, it benefits from summer breezes, perfect for al fresco dining.
Away from Lucca there are many grand villas with gardens, in the surrounding countryside. Pisa, Florence and Siena are within driving distance or can be reached from Lucca via the extensive railway and bus network.
Lucca is famous for its links to Puccini. Also famous for its impressive city walls built in the 12th century, which serve as a wide boulevard for walking and cycling. The historic centre has many exclusive shops, palaces, towers and churches, along with works of art by renowned artists such as Tintoretto and Ghirlandaio.
