Why did we fall in love with our little bit of the Languedoc ?

We wanted to get back to the rural France we all seek. An area where you can park the car anywhere, be known and remembered in local bars and restaurants and above all to find a place to really relax in .

We bought in October 2011 .We have decorated our lovely cottage throughout and equipped it to make it feel like

home.

the wine made from the vines you overlook in the nearby Cave de Razes. Many local vineyards offer tutored tastings.

Probably its greatest feature are the terraces to the front and back of the house , where you can barbecue , drink and relax !

The kitchen is immaculate , with every utensil you could need to self cater.

The sitting room overlooks the rear terrace, with a spectacular view over the vineyards to the hilltop village of Routier.

For young children - we have a travel cot. Stair gates at top and bottom of stairs.

Welcome Pack- if you are arriving late - we can arrange for the basics to be there for you wine, butter,bread,milk etc - payable on arrival.

We have a very helpful local couple, Paul and Sue, who look after the house for us - they are always happy to give any local guidance .

The Languedoc-Roussillon region

The Languedoc is renowned for the quality and range of its food and drink. It is quite simply a gourmet's paradise.

Famous dishes include Cassoulet from Castelnaudry, en route to Toulouse. Confit of duck. Pate de foie gras served with Cevennes onion marmalade is a delicious dish.

In Limoux, you must sample the local sparkling wines - Cremant and Blanquette de Limoux. Limoux is also famous for nougat.

Local circulade villages - just as they were hundreds of years ago.

As you drive through the rolling countryside, covered with vineyards and sunflowers, the ever changing colours provide a delight for the senses - whatever the time of year.

This area represents the real rural France.

Carcassonne

The delighful town of Limoux is under ten minutes away.This is where we do our shopping. It has every facility you could require. In winter, it is famous for its Carnaval - a long standing Languedoc tradition going back hundreds of years - it takes place at weekends during January to March. Typical town square lined by bars and restaurants.You can idle away many a happy hour here !

La Cite at Carcassonne is well worth a visit. Many Cathar castles in the area - the inspiration for Kate Mosse's novels.

Rennes le Chateau is only about 30 minutes away - a really pretty village and the inspiration behind the Da Vinci Code.

Les Galloises - our local bar . Only 5 mins by car - great atmosphere in the bar or on the sunny terrace.

A few miles away at Alet les Bains, you can swim in a warm Roman spa pool.

Local swimming pool 7 minutes away in Belvezes.

Lovely pool only 25 minutes away at Rennes le Bain

A beautiful natural lake with beach facilities about 40 minutes away.

On the river at Alet les Bains, there is a full kayak/canoe facility on the river Aude - hire the equipment there.

At Carcassonne Plage, there is a wonderful swimming lake - 30 minutes away.

The nearest sea resort is Gruissan at about 1 hour.

1 1/4 hours - and an easy trip is the delightful sandy beach of Leucat plage.

Andorra and Spain are within easy reach . You can be skiing in 1 1/2 hours.

Bicycle hire at Limoux and Bram.

Explore the delightful Canal du Midi - only half an hour away.Great for cycling and walking. In season there are some really pretty eating places along the canal.
