Montepulciano

Montepulciano is a beautiful Tuscan town located 110km south of Florence, 50 km south from Arezzo and 60km south-east of Sienna, 600 m a.s.l. You can admire several Renaissance-style buildings along the main road which winds up to the highest point of the historic town centre of Montepulciano, situated on a limestone elevation over the Chianti valley. Outside the walls, on the other hand, is the San Biagio church, a well-known example from this era. The wine ''Nobile di Montepulciano'' is produced in the area, one of Tuscany great red wines. Montepulciano, known as "the pearl of the '500', offers a number of artistic beauty, and is visited every year by thousands of tourists from all over the world. There are a lot of restaurants, with excellent Tuscan cuisine (do not miss the "pici" pasta and steak of Chianina). Not miss a visit to the wine cellars where they produce the famous Vino Nobile, and especially the Redi Cellars and Contucci Cellars, the most ancient and suggestive, with the possibility of tasting the famous wine. For a pleasant stop for a tea or an aperitif, it is recommended the famous Caffè Poliziano, on the Corso, in exquisite style "Art Nouveau", already beloved by Federico Fellini and other artists. Thare are moreover a lot of cultural events and folklore, as the famous 1st May Fair; or - on the July - the "Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte "(theater, music and dance) with artists from around the world. In the days around mid-August, in the evening thare is in Piazza Grande, the "Bruscello", popular representation in costume. Throughout the month of August you keep your "Contrada Dinner " rendezvous for gourmets. And finally, the last Sunday in August, thare is the "Bravìo delle Botti", sort of stake in which representatives of the Contrade test themselves, preceded by a magnificent parade in costume with the fantastic flag wavers
