The Paphos region

Paphos enjoys 300 days plus of sunshine a year and has a history that dates back thousands of years. Modern Paphos is split into two parts, the upper part being the old town known locally as “Ktima”, and the lower part by the coast known as “Kato Paphos”. The upper part of the town contains the main commercial centre, with banks, shops and modern museums.

The bustling lower 'port' part of the town contains many restaurants, gift shops and most of the historic sites. Paphos is rich in ancient and natural sites, which is reflected in the fact that it is included in the UNESCO list of World Cultural Heritage Sites, and many of these sites date back to the Roman Ages.

Sites include the medieval fort built by the Lusignans in 13th Century AD and commands great view over the harbour.

Mosaics (located near harbour). Four ancient houses from the 2nd Century AD and discovered in 1962. Incredible detailed mosaic floors.

In the same "historical theme park" is the fantastic ampitheatre dating back to 2nd Century AD is still used for plays today.

Just east of Paphos a beautiful coastal drive can be enjoyed to Aphrodite's rock where it is said the Greek legend rose from the waves.

Just to the North of Paphos, approximately 5 mins drive away are the Tomb of the Kings - a grand 3rd century burial site. Further on is the popular resort of Coral Bay with it's Blue Flag beach, many restaurants & tavernas and tourist shops. The sea caves are also nearby here.

Further north still and you will come to the Akamas peninsula with its beautiful gorge, great for walking and good mountain bike terrority. Slightly further up the coast is Lara bay where you may (depending on time of year) visit the turtle sanctuary.

The Troodos mountains are also easily accessible by car and provide beautiful scenery good walking routes and even skiing in the winter months.
