La Maison d'Amis is a comfortable and private cottage on an estate which is one of the most tranquil in the Dordogne, offering walks in the woods on the estate, fishing and swimming in the pool. Stabling for horses.

It is a perfect base for exploring the many attractions of the area, and within easy reach of the many good restaurants and shops in Brantome, Nontron and Perigueux.

The Domaine in its present form has been here since at least 1711. It was most probably the “Ferme Domaniale” (The Manor Farm) to Chateau Gaillard, which used to stand up on the hill. The Chateau itself was reputedly a Crusader Castle, later owned by the Knights Templar, and legend has it that there are many Crusader and Knights Graves up on the hill. La Maison d'Amis was originally the “Chai”- wine press from when the area was a large wine producing area until the vines were wiped out by disease in the late 19th Century.

The lake reputedly dates back to Roman Times, and is fully lined in stone.

Le Domaine is run as sustainably as possible. Whilst not having an official “Organic” designation, no chemicals, artificial fertilizers or systemic weedkillers have been used for over at least the last 20 years.
