About this location

The East Sussex region

Combine coast and countryside for a break with a difference. You're never far from the sea and the varied coastline here - dramatic white cliffs drop to secluded rocky bays, shingle beaches and swathes of golden sand. Just a short drive from the lively cities and towns which pepper this 100 mile stretch of coast you'll find unspoilt landscapes aplenty. Right across Sussex you'll find flea markets and antique shops, tea rooms and farmers' markets.

Sussex by the Sea

Lazy days at Littlehampton beach, SussexTo the east is 1066 Country, where you'll find the site of the Battle of Hastings, and on the coast, the old Cinque Port of Rye, bohemian Hastings and nearby Bexhill, and pretty countryside inland. Along the coast is Eastbourne, a seaside resort with award-winning beaches and a grand promenade. For drama, head for the iconic white chalk cliffs of Beachy Head and the Seven Sisters. This area offers lovely scenic walks along the coast and through picturesque villages, with great views over the English Channel.

Brighton mixes all the essentials of a city break – history and culture, sophisticated shopping, buzzy restaurants and glittering nightlife – with the laid-back charms of the seaside.

To the west lie the award-winning beaches of Bognor Regis and Littlehampton, making this a popular spot for families. The town of Worthing offers visitors', superb theartres, restaurants and fablous shopping. The Roman city of Chichester has an imposing cathedral, a major art gallery and the renowned Chichester Festival Theatre, plus the wildlife-rich inlets and bays of Chichester Harbour and the beaches of West Wittering and East Head.
